Emory & Henry Athletics Held Their Ninth Annual I-HEY Golf Tournament on Friday

ABINGDON, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Department of Athletics held the Ninth Annual I-HEY Golf Tournament at Glenrochie Country Club in Abingdon on Friday, May 13. Branch & Associates served as the title sponsor of the event for the third straight year, while Wallace Brothers Construction sponsored the awards luncheon. Hampton Inn was the official hotel of the tournament and sponsored the golf carts, as Blue Ridge Auto Group provided the hole in one prizes. Over $34,000 was raised at the event with 113 golfers participating.

For the third consecutive year, the field was split into two flights, Blue and Gold, and a first and second place trophy was given for each flight. The team of Brent Dyson, Mark Nelson, Ron Barrett, and Ryan Meador won a tiebreaker at a score of 59 to take home first place trophies for the Blue Flight.  Second place, also with a score of 59, went to Rufus Shull, Bob Hayes, Kenneth Yeager, and Jeff Leach.

In the Gold Flight, there was also a tie at 60. The team of Dave Voskuil, Rick Gaumer, Jonathan Shores, and Jeff Stines took home the first place prize. The foursome of Chad Hagy, Steve Hagy, Joey Blankenship, and Chris Ratliff walked away with the second place prize.

Other award winners included Wayne Austin for the Hampton Inn Longest Drive, Larry Bales for the Pop Ellis Longest Drive, Bo Catron for the Bank of Marion Closest to the Pin, Tom Ely for the B&J Embroidery Longest Putt, and Frank Luton for the Front Row Music Longest Putt. Each of these players won a free round of golf at Glenrochie. Dave Voskuil won the Bella's Pizza 50/50 Raffle.

I-HEY is the official fundraising arm of Emory & Henry College's athletic department. For more than 65 years, alumni and friends have supported athletic programs at E&H by joining I-HEY (I Help Every Year). Contributions help teams purchase equipment and pay for travel to and from competition. Gifts earmarked to I-HEY or to any one of the Wasps' 15 intercollegiate athletic teams help young men and women become leaders on the field and court as well as in the classroom.
