EMORY, Va. – Forty-Two student-athletes from Emory & Henry College have been named to the College’s Dean’s List for the Spring 2012 Semester, E&H officials announced Monday. In order to earn this honor, students must earn a 3.6 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. In total, 142 students were named to the Dean’s List, 30 percent of whom are student-athletes.
The average GPA of all athletes came in at a 2.730, while female athletes earned a 2.830 for the 2011-12 academic year. As a whole, the Emory & Henry student body holds a 2.882 grade point average.
The College also has released data with each team’s GPA. Leading the way is Women’s Cross Country (3.537) while Men’s Tennis (3.183) came in second, topping the chart on the men’s side. Volleyball (3.100), Women’s Swimming (3.059) and Men’s Cross Country (3.045) also topped the 3.0 mark for the season.
“I am very proud of the academic accomplishments of our student-athletes and am glad to see five of our 13 teams with GPAs over 3.0,” said Director of Athletics Myra Sims. “It is also particularly gratifying to see the increase in the number of student-athletes on the Dean’s List. Student-athletes made up 30 percent of the Dean’s list at E&H this past semester, which is up from only 19 percent a year ago; we are obviously recruiting strong students to our teams.”
Other academic awards and teams will be released throughout the summer, including those from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).
