EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Football Team returned to campus on Wednesday and began practice Friday morning. This begins the NCAA-mandated five-day acclimatization period prior to practicing in full pads with full contact. E&H currently has 138 players on the roster, with a mix of veterans and newcomers, who will be looked upon to be major contributors this year.
"I thought we got off to a good start. We had a lot of energy early and as we got into things we got a little sloppy and ran out of juice. The heat definitely played a part in that," said Head Coach Curt Newsome. "We tried to get a lot of people reps, and with seven freshman quarterbacks there is going to be a learning curve. Overall I thought we had great effort and I like our intensity."
The first day of full contact will be Tuesday with the first two-a-day practice on Wednesday. As the preseason progresses, the coaching staff will be able to put together a depth chart, scout team and travel roster.
Emory & Henry will host an intrasquad scrimmage on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 23 at 3:00 p.m., at Fred Selfe Stadium. All fans are encouraged to come out and meet the 2016 team.
