EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Men's Basketball Team, under the direction of Head Coach David Willson, now in his fourth year, has set its schedule for the 2016-17 campaign. E&H will play four games against 2016 NCAA Division III Tournament participants and a slate of nine non-conference games against a group of opponents which averaged a 15-11 overall record last year.
The season will be highlighted by a trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico where the Wasps will have the opportunity to compete against a pair of non-regional opponents and explore a different part of the world.
"One of our goals this year was to improve our strength of schedule with the expectation that it will give our team a better chance to play in March," commented Willson. "I am excited about the potential of this team. I expect our experience, depth, and balance to help us compete well in one of the best leagues in the country."
Emory & Henry will open the season at home for the third year in a row, playing host to Sewanee: The University of the South on Tuesday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. The contest will be the first of an opening night doubleheader with the E&H women. The Wasps will travel to Covenant College for their first weekend, playing the LaGrange College Panthers on Friday, Nov. 18 and the host Covenant Scots on Saturday, Nov. 19. A visit to Maryville (Tenn.) College on Wednesday, Nov. 23 completes the opening stretch of the season.
The Wasps open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play at perennial-power Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday, November 26. E&H will have a home game against Ferrum College on Wednesday, November 30 at 8:00 p.m., before traveling to Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, December 3 and Johnson University on Wednesday, December 7 closes out the fall semester.
On Sunday, December 18 the Wasps will open play in the Puerto Rico Clasico against the University of Dubuque (Iowa) at noon. E&H's second game in the event will be against Montclair State University of New Jersey on Monday, December 19.
