FOREST, Va. – Coming off its first trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament since 2004, the Emory & Henry College Softball Team has been picked to finish third in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference regular season, ODAC officials announced Thursday. The poll was voted on by the league's 10 head coaches.
Emory & Henry, which finished as the runner-up in the 2017 ODAC Tournament to eventual national champion Virginia Wesleyan College, looks to repeat and improve on its success this spring. The Wasps return 13 letterwinners, six starters in the field and one starting pitcher from last year's squad. Combined with a strong group of freshmen, Head Coach Tommy Forrester's squad is primed for another run in the ODAC and the NCAA postseason.
Reigning Division III Champion Virginia Wesleyan is the favorite to win the league with nine first-place votes while Randolph-Macon College is second with the final top nod. Following third-place E&H is Lynchburg College (fourth) and Guilford College (fifth).
Emory & Henry will open the season on Friday with a doubleheader at Salem College. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The Wasps kick off the home portion of their season on Thursday, February 15 against Ferrum College at 1:00 p.m.
