EMORY, Va. – Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team has completed its 2016 season schedule, Head Coach Devyn Bayes announced Tuesday. The Wasps will play 29 matches during the regular season for the third straight year.
"I am very excited about the schedule we have this coming season," said Bayes. "We have a number of exciting home games against big conference and non-conference opponents, and with our crowds, it's always an advantage to be on our home court."
E&H will begin the season on Thursday, September 1 with a visit to Milligan College in Tennessee. The Wasps will remain on the road for the weekend with four matches at the 22nd Annual Averett Cougar Classic in Danville, Virginia.
After a midweek trip to face West Virginia Tech on Wednesday, September 7 the Wasps will return to the Greensboro College Invitational on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11, completing the first third of their campaign.
Emory & Henry will open the home portion of its schedule and Old Dominion Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, September 14 when Randolph College visits the John Rutledge King Center at 6:30 p.m.
The Wasps head back to Piedmont Triad of North Carolina on Saturday, September 17 for two league matches against Virginia Wesleyan College and Randolph-Macon College at Guilford College. E&H will step out of ODAC play on Tuesday, September 20 in order to host Maryville (Tenn.) College at 6:30 p.m.
The brunt of the schedule hits beginning with the final weekend in September. E&H will play in three tri-matches over the course of five weeks with key mid-week ODAC matches on the slate. Lynchburg College will travel to Southwest Virginia on Friday, September 30 for a 6:00 p.m., contest while the Wasps will host the Generals of Washington and Lee University on Tuesday, October 18 at 7:00 p.m.
Also on the home schedule for Emory & Henry is a rare Monday match, which sees the Wasps take on the Lions of Piedmont College on October 10 at 6:30 p.m.
Senior Night for Emory & Henry is set for Friday, October 28 against West Virginia Tech at 6:30 p.m. The Wasps conclude the regular season on Saturday, October 29 taking on Guilford in the final league match of the year.
"This season's schedule will be special no matter what, since we have six seniors who are ready to leave their mark permanently on our program. The weekend heavy schedule that we have developed this year will put those seniors and all of our athletes in a better position to be successful both on and off the court," Bayes added.
The 2016 ODAC Tournament will take place during the first week of November. The quarterfinals will be held at the higher seeds with the semifinals and final scheduled for Saturday, November 5 at the highest remaining seed after the quarterfinals.
