EMORY, Va. – Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team and Head Coach Devyn Bayes are pleased to announce their schedule for the 2017 season. The Wasps are set to play 27 matches, 11 of which will take place on Bob Johnson Court at the John Rutledge King Center.
"I am very excited about the schedule we have this coming season," said Bayes. "We have more home matches than in any time in recent memory, and we look forward to showing off the amazing support we receive from our fans."
E&H will begin the season on Friday, September 1 and Saturday, September 2 with four matches at the Marietta Invitational in Marietta, Ohio. The Wasps will take on the host Marietta Pioneers as well as Oberlin College, Mount St. Joseph University and Thiel College.
Emory & Henry opens the home portion of its season against long-time, non-conference rival Ferrum College on Tuesday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m. After travelling to defend their title at the Greensboro College Invitational on Saturday, September 9 and Sunday, September 10, the Wasps will open Old Dominion Athletic Conference play at home against Roanoke College (Wed., Sept. 13; 6:30 p.m.).
A tri-match with Washington and Lee University and Brevard College awaits E&H on Saturday, September 17 with a single-match against Shenandoah University following on Sunday, September 18 at 1:30 p.m.
After a pair of road tests at Hollins University and Southern Virginia University, Emory & Henry will return home for a three-match stretch against Eastern Mennonite University (Wed., Sept. 27; 7:00 p.m.), Milligan College (Fri., Sept. 29; 6:30 p.m.) and Bridgewater College (Tue., Oct. 3; 6:30 p.m.).
The Wasps visit Lynchburg College on Friday, October 6 and remain in the "Hill City" on Saturday, October 7 for a tri-match at Randolph College with the WildCats and Regent University.
A weekend at Maryville (Tenn.) College and Johnson University next awaits E&H before the final stretch of the season. Emory & Henry will host West Virginia Tech on Tuesday, October 17 at 6:30 p.m.
A visit to Eastern Virginia to take on Virginia Wesleyan University and Randolph-Macon College is up for the weekend of Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21. The Wasps will conclude the season with home matches against ODAC foe Guilford College on Wednesday, October 25 (7:00 p.m.) and Regent (Friday, October 27; 7:00 p.m.), which will serve as Senior Night.
"We continue to put together a schedule that will be most beneficial to our student-athletes both on and off the court," Bayes added. "We look forward to the year as we bring in my first class consisting of both freshmen and transfers."
The 2017 ODAC Tournament will take place during the crossover week between October and November. The quarterfinals will be held at the higher seeds on Tuesday, October 31 with the semifinals and championship scheduled for Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4 at the highest remaining seed after the quarterfinals.
