NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Recent Emory & Henry College graduate Josh McMillian has been named to the 2012 VaSID All-State College Division Baseball Team, VaSID officials announced Friday. The Amelia, Va., native wins All-Virginia honors for the first time in his career. McMillian adds all-state honors to his résumé as he was also selected to the ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region First Team.
McMillian was named to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference First Team at second base after helping guide E&H to one of its best seasons in school history. The team finished tied for third in the ODAC Regular Season and earned a berth in the ODAC Tournament for the first time since 1999. E&H also tied the school record with 15 wins on the season and set a new mark with 11 wins in the league.
For the season, McMillian led the Wasps in batting average (.368), hits (63), home runs (five) and RBI (38) while slugging .567 on the year. McMillian also tallied 29 runs scored, 17 doubles, a .401 on base percentage and a .955 fielding percentage as he started every single game of the year at second base.
Shenandoah University outfielder Jake Pendergraft, a Third-Team All-America by the ABCA took home Player of the Year honors after leading the Hornets to an at-large bid in the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Kevin Chandler of Bridgewater College added State Pitcher of the Year honors to his ODAC Pitcher of the Year award and a spot on the ABCA South Region First Team.
Lynchburg College pitcher Brandon Miller earned Rookie of the Year accolades for his efforts with the ODAC Champion Hornets, who advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Christopher Newport University Head Coach John Harvell was named Coach of the Year for the second straight time and fifth time in a row. The Captains reached the NCAA Division III College World Series for the third time in school history, winning the NCAA South Regional on their home field.
The VaSID All-State teams are selected by sports information directors of member institutions of the Virginia Sports Information Directors across the Commonwealth of Virginia. VaSID, founded in 1983, selects teams in two divisions (University and College) for 12 sports and three single-division teams in addition to Academic All-State teams across all sports.
