NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Emory & Henry University Baseball Team (5-8, 3-4 SAC) earned a big South Atlantic Conference road win over Newberry College (9-7, 5-2 SAC) Friday evening. The Wasps rode the arm of senior starting pitcher Jacob Nester (Hillsville, Va.), who spun a gem as he went the distance without allowing a run en route to E&H earning the 3-0 shutout victory.

How It Happened
After a scoreless first inning, Emory & Henry opened the scoring in the top of the second. Senior catcher Ky Gregoire (Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA) launched a solo shot over the outfield fence to put the Wasps ahead 1-0. The Wasps would add to their lead in the top of the third inning. Junior designated hitter Kyle Fields (Lynchburg, Va.) drew a walk, junior first baseman J.D. James (China Grove, N.C.) reached on a fielder's choice and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Another wild pitch allowed Fields to score and Gregoire delivered an RBI double to center to plate James and push the E&H margin out to 3-0.
Nester was lights out on the mound all afternoon for the Wasps as he kept the Wolves' bats silent throughout the contest. Neither team could scratch across another run and the Wasps held on for the 3-0 win. Nester earned the win on the hill as he went all nine innings, allowing seven hits while fanning seven batters. Jacob Clark suffered the tough-luck loss for Newberry as he threw seven innings, surrendering three runs, one earned, on five hits while recording eight strikeouts. Gregoire had a pair of hits and the lone two RBIs of the contest while junior outfielder Jadden Rodriguez (Thomasville, N.C.) registered a pair of knocks.
