Belmont Abbey Baseball Defeats Emory & Henry Tuesday Afternoon

BELMONT, N.C. – The Emory & Henry University Baseball Team (5-11) dropped its non-conference midweek game to Belmont Abbey College (12-5) Tuesday afternoon. The Crusaders utilized a 14-run fourth inning to cruise to the 28-3 victory.

How It Happened
The Crusaders were first on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning, as they slugged a solo home run to jump ahead 1-0. The Wasps leveled the score in the top of the second. Junior shortstop Jeriel Lamboy (Caguas, PUERTO RICO) reached on a bunt single, stole second base and came around to score on an RBI base hit from sophomore outfielder Rhett Barker (Charlotte, N.C.) to tie the game at 1-1.

The teams were held scoreless in the third, but the home team broke things open in the bottom of the fourth as they put up 14 runs on nine hits, including three home runs. Belmont Abbey would add two in the fifth and three more in the sixth to balloon their lead out to 20-1. Emory & Henry got a pair of runs back in the seventh as junior outfielder Jadden Rodriguez (Thomasville, N.C.) singled, senior outfielder Clay Caldwell (Salem, Va.) was hit by a pitch and senior third baseman Luke Roberts (Roanoke, Va.) drilled a single to load the bases. Freshman catcher Jaxon Ehret (Davidson, N.C.) delivered an RBI single and another run scored on a double play to make it 20-3. BAC would go on to add four in the bottom of the seventh and four more in the bottom of the eight for the 28-3 win. 

Ethan Yarbrough picked up the win on the mound for the Crusaders as he worked a scoreless fifth inning in relief. Junior righty Ivan Delp (Sparta, N.C.) took the loss for E&H as he gave up six runs on just three hits over 3.1 innings of work. Barker and Ehret accounted for the lone RBIs for the Wasps.

Emory & Henry opens up its 2026 home schedule on Friday, March 6 with game one of a South Atlantic Conference weekend series against Tusculum. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. from Porterfield-DeVault Field.
