EMORY, Va. – The Coker University Baseball Team (10-26, 8-16 SAC) took the final game of a weekend three-game series over Emory & Henry University (10-25, 6-18 SAC) Saturday afternoon. The Cobras recorded runs in seven of the nine innings, as they topped the Wasps by a 13-5 final score.

How It Happened
After a scoreless first inning, Coker took the early lead as the Cobras scored four runs on four hits in the top of the second. Emory & Henry got a run back in the home half of the inning when junior first baseman Kyle Fields (Lynchburg, Va.) singled and advanced to second on an error, then came around to score on an RBI single from senior catcher Ky Gregoire (Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA) to cut the deficit to 4-1.
The visitors from Hartsville would go on to tally one run in the third, two in the fourth, one in the sixth and two more in the seventh to push their advantage out to 10-1. The Wasps scored one in the bottom of the seventh when junior second baseman Jeriel Lamboy (Caguas, PUERTO RICO) tripled and touched home on an RBI base knock from sophomore outfielder Stuart Callahan, III (Stuart, Va.). Coker responded with another run in the top of the eighth, but again E&H answered back. Junior outfielder Jadden Rodriguez (Thomasville, N.C.) doubled, Fields singled and Gregoire scored Rodriguez with an RBI double. Senior designated hitter Jacob Nester (Hillsville, Va.) plated both runners with a two-RBI base hit to cut the gap to 11-5. Coker would add two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth to clinch the 13-5 victory.
Blake Baldwin earned the win on the mound for Coker as he allowed five runs on 10 hits while fanning seven Wasp batters over 7.1 innings. Sophomore righty Cole Gillis (Charlotte, N.C.) suffered the loss after conceding eight runs, seven earned, on nine base hits with a pair of strikeouts. Fields, Gregoire, Nester, Callahan and sophomore outfielder Rhett Barker (Charlotte, N.C.) all recorded a pair of hits each.
