Lafonte Thourogood is entering his first season as an Assistant Football Coach at Emory & Henry University. Thourogood will be responsible for coaching the team's wide receivers. 

Coach Thourogood joins the Emory & Henry University football program with over a decade of elite coaching experience, marked by a proven ability to develop championship-caliber quarterbacks and wide receivers. Known for his dynamic offensive systems and commitment to building strong team culture, he brings a distinguished track record of leadership, innovation, and program-building success. His addition strengthens the Wasps’ coaching staff and reinforces the program’s commitment to excellence on and off the field.

Off the field, Thourogood is deeply connected to Virginia’s 757 region and is known for his steadfast commitment to mentoring young men both as athletes and as individuals. His coaching philosophy centers on belief, discipline, commitment, grit, and unwavering dedication to excellence.

A highly respected figure in Hampton Roads and across the Virginia high school football landscape, Thourogood has led teams to four VHSL (Virginia High School League) Class 6A State Championship appearances, securing titles in 2020, 2021, and 2024, and posting a 3–1 record in those contests. Throughout his coaching career, he has amassed an exceptional 80–9 record at the public-school level and has played a pivotal role in the recruitment and development of over 70 student-athletes who advanced to play college football.

Thourogood began his collegiate playing career at Vanderbilt University in 2011 as one of the highest-rated prospects in his recruiting class. He later transferred to James Madison University in 2013, where he earned a degree in Criminal Justice. A native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Thourogood was a 4-star recruit and one of the most highly regarded high school quarterbacks in the state.

He is proudly married to his wife, Isabella, and together they reside in Abingdon, Virginia, with their two children, Havenn and Saint.
