EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Men's Lacrosse Team (1-7, 0-3 SAC) dropped a South Atlantic Conference home match to No. 8 nationally-ranked Newberry College (9-2, 5-0 SAC) Saturday afternoon. The Wolves ran out to a 14-1 halftime lead and never looked back as they rolled to a 26-6 win.

How It Happened
- It was all Newberry in the first quarter as the visitors put up nine unanswered goals to lead 9-0 through one period of play. The Wolves tallied three more scores to open the second quarter, but the Wasps broke up the run at the 4:45 mark. Sophomore midfielder David Mewes (Greenville, S.C.) dished to freshman attack Gavin Starling (McKinney, Texas) who beat the NC goalie on the man-up advantage to cut the deficit to 12-1. Newberry would add two more goals to lead 14-1 at the break.
- The Wolves pushed their advantage out to 17-1 with three more scores to start the third, until Emory & Henry broke through with 7:56 on the clock. Junior attack Jacob Mills (Culpeper, Va.) ripped home a shot for an unassisted goal to make it 17-2. Newberry recorded five more goals to take a 22-2 margin into the fourth and final quarter. Another goal made it 23-2, but E&H struck back as Mewes scored unassisted at the 12:20 mark to make it 23-3. After two NC goals, Mills got back on the score sheet, first on an assist from sophomore defender Everett Grube (Saint Inigoes, Md.) then unassisted once more to complete his hat track and reduce the deficit to 25-5. Newberry scored its final goal of the contest with 2:12, but Emory & Henry had the final say as Starling found freshman defender Brayden Hall (Salem, Va.) who buried a shot into the back of the net to send the score to its final at 26-6.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Mills paced the Wasps with a trio of goals and three ground balls. Starling had one goal, one assist and a ground ball while Mewes added one goal, one assist and a pair of ground balls.
- Sophomore defender Kyle Dyott (Easton, Md.) finished with two ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers. Sophomore midfielder Caleb Mims (Kingsport, Tenn.) registered one ground ball and caused one turnover.
- Freshman goalie AJ Cakir (McKinney, Texas) had nine saves and a ground ball while sophomore goalie Mason Buttery (Carmel, Ind.) collected 10 saves and a pair of ground balls in relief.
Newberry Individual Leaders
- Gage Vigar led all scorers with four goals, one ground ball and a caused turnover. Five different Wolves finished with a pair of goals.
- Ben McMullen, Luke McLellan, Parker Lamb, Rainen O'Kurley and Colin Maaiki combined for nine saves in goal for the Wolves.
