How It Happened
- The Wasps began the game on the front foot as they fired three shots at the Chowan goal in the opening 22 minutes of play, but the score remained at 0-0. The teams were evenly matched as they both continued to create threatening scoring opportunities, but neither could convert to get on the scoreboard. Freshman forward Samuel Ulrich Da Silva (Balneario Camboriu, BRAZIL) had a chance to put E&H ahead, but the Hawks goalkeeper Lucas Kibrya came up with a big save to keep things scoreless. Chowan had the final three attempts of the opening half, but sophomore goalkeeper Nikolaj Bertelsen (Vejle, DENMARK) made a pair of stops and the teams were deadlocked at the half.
- The squads exchanged scoring chances to begin the second frame as freshman forward Jean-Charles Eyidi (Briollay, FRANCE) had a shot saved by the CU keeper and Chowan's Bradley Binns saw his long-range effort carom off of the crossbar to keep the score level. The visitors finally broke through in the 58th minute when Binns curled a free kick into the right corner of the goal to put Chowan on top 1-0. The Hawks would make it 2-0 three minutes later when Cameron Letterlough converted a penalty kick after a foul was called in the 18-yard box. The Wasps pulled back within one in the 77th minute on a corner kick when freshman midfielder Milan Ales (Le Cres, FRANCE) provided a beautiful cross into the box that grad student defender Louis Demarest (Arras, FRANCE) headed home to decrease the deficit to 2-1. Emory & Henry had chances to equalize in the latter stages, but the Hawks held on for the 2-1 win.
