ANDERSON, S.C. – The Emory & Henry University Men's Soccer Team (0-3, 0-1 SAC) gave No. 4 nationally-ranked Anderson (S.C.) University (3-0-1, 1-0 SAC) everything it could handle for a full 90 minutes Sunday afternoon, but could not break through on the scoreboard as the Wasps dropped their SAC opener by a 1-0 margin. E&H outshot the Trojans 9-6 and earned eight corners compared to just three for the home team.

How It Happened
- The match was a defensive battle from the beginning that saw both teams struggle to create scoring chances. Senior forward Matheus Ulrich Da Silva (Balneario Camboriu, BRAZIL) fired the first attempt of the game in the third minute that missed wide and junior midfielder Lander Barrio Gonzalez (Otañes, SPAIN) recorded an attempt in the 22nd minute that forced Anderson goalkeeper Franco Antoniolli Funes into a save to keep things scoreless. Barrio Gonzalez had the third and final shot of the half for the Wasps in the 40th minute, but it also missed the target and the teams headed into the locker rooms with things tied 0-0.
- Anderson opened up the scoring in the 53rd minute when Adrian Castillo Monton launched a shot from beyond the midway line that found the back of the net to give the Trojans the 1-0 advantage with their first shot on goal of the contest. E&H responded with the next five shots, including three straight from Ulrich Da Silva, but the Wasps were still kept out of the scoring column. AU locked down on defense over the final 13 minutes of play to escape with the 1-0 victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Ulrich Da Silva paced the Wasps with four shots, one of which was on target. Barrio Gonzalez added three attempts while graduate student midfielder Luke Alexander (Altamonte Springs, Fla.) and freshman defender Milan Ales (Le Cres, FRANCE) each had a shot.

Anderson (S.C.) Individual Leaders
- Jonas Zethofer had a team-high two shots for the Trojans off of the bench. Castillo Monton recorded the goal on his lone attempt of the contest.
- Antoniolli Funes registered three saves in goal to earn the win for AU.

- The Wasps return home on Wednesday, September 17 when they step out of conference play to take on the Trojans of Virginia State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from the Food City Sports Complex.
