EMORY, VA. – The Emory & Henry University Softball Team (19-13, 4-4 SAC) battled their Southwest Virginia rivals UVA Wise to a 1-1 split on the day. The Wasps took Game 1 4-3 but fell in Game 2, 7-6.

Game One – UVA Wise 3, Emory & Henry 4
The Wasps jumped out to the early 1-0 lead off of a solo home run from Hannah Booth (Longwood, Fla.) her 8th of year. That would be the lone run until the top of the 5th that saw Wise finally break through scoring 3 runs from 3 hits to take the 3-1 lead. E&H immediately responded in their half of the frame. Greenly Elliott (Danville, Va.) singled through the left side of the infield to begin the inning. Karsen Simpson (Salisbury, N.C.) swung at the second pitch she saw and landed a ball over the left field fence to tie the ballgame at 3.
Sawyer Tolley (Bedford, Va.) laced a pitch to dead center field for her 11th home run of the year to give the Wasps the lead for good. Malorie Reeves (Galax, Va.) was credited with the win, her 14th of the season. She finished Game 1 with 3 earned runs, 2 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
Game Two – UVA Wise 7, Emory & Henry 6
In Game 2 the Wasps jumped out to a 2 run lead in the first frame. E&H began with back-to-back-to-back singles from Rachel Hill (Stanardsville, Va.), Abigail Street (Glade Spring, Va.), and Hannah Booth. Booth's single brought Hill home to begin the scoring. Two batters later Liberty Johnson (Arvonia, Va.) hit a single of her own that brought in Booth for the 2-0 lead. Wise responded in the top of the 2nd with an RBI single from Ashley Morgan to cut into the E&H lead.
The Wasps added another run in their half of the frame as Simpson came around to score with Hill being credited with the RBI. The programs would pin pong the lead through the middle innings.. Wise tied things up in the top of the 3rd with an RBI double from Kennedy Miller and an RBI single from Lindsey Polan. In the bottom of the 4th Rachel Hill hit a 2 RBI single to second base that brought in Simpson and Elliott. Two batters later Booth hit another double that sent Laila Rodriguez (Virginia Beach, Va.) across home plate for the 3 run lead.
The Cavaliers scored 2 runs in the top of the 5th and added another 2 in the top of the 6th to push ahead 7-6. Emory & Henry's offense couldn't get anything going in the final 2 frames, and UVA Wise would go on to take Game 2 7-6.

Emory & Henry is back in action this Saturday, March 28th on the road to take on the Catawba College Catawba Indians. First pitch is scheduled for 2PM and 4PM.
