The Wasps drop pair of SAC contests to Catawba Saturday.

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Emory & Henry University Softball Team (19-15, 4-6 SAC) fell in both contests against the Catawba College Catawba Indians on the road. The Wasps were defeated 3-0 in Game 1 and 2-1 in Game 2.

The Basics
GAME ONE – Emory & Henry 0, Catawba 3
GAME TWO – Emory & Henry 1, Catawba 2
LOCATION – Salisbury, North Carolina
VENUE – Whitley Field
RECORDS – Emory & Henry (19-15  4-6 SAC); Catawba (20-13, 6-2 SAC)

Game One – Emory & Henry 0, Catawba 3

The Wasps struggled to get the offense going in Game 1 of the doubleheader. E&H managed to get 3 hits in the contest with 2 coming from Greenly Elliott (Danville, Va.) and 1 coming from Abigail Street (Glade Spring, Va.). Elliott advanced to scoring position in the top of the 5th inning, but that would be as close as the Wasps would get to home plate. Catawba scored 1 run in the 2nd and 2 in the 4th to get the 3-0 win.

Game Two – Emory & Henry 1, Catawba 2
Defense was the name of the game once again in Game 2. Both programs combined for only 6 runs total between the two games. The Wasps first chance to break things open came on the top of the 3rd when Rachel Hill (Stanardsville, Va.) roped a double to left center putting her in scoring position. The offense would stall and E&H would have to wait to get any runs on the board. Catawba struck first, pushing two runs across home plate in the bottom of the 5th.

The Wasps responded in the top of the 6th with a solo home run from Hannah Booth (Longwood, Fla.) to make it 2-1. That would be as close as Emory & Henry would get. In the top of the 7th, The Wasps managed to get the go-ahead run on the base paths but would ground into a double play for the final 2 outs of the game.
