Wasps come up short in conference clash with LR.

EMORY, VA. – The Emory & Henry University Softball Team (19-17, 4-8 SAC) came up short in both contests against the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears today at home. Game 1 was a defensive battle that saw just one run scored, Game 2 was all LR as they would go onto win 8-1.

The Basics
GAME ONE – Lenoir-Rhyne 1, Emory & Henry 0
GAME TWO – Lenoir-Rhyne 8, Emory & Henry 1
LOCATION – Emory, Virginia
VENUE – Wasps Field
RECORDS – Emory & Henry (19-17  4-8 SAC); Lenoir-Rhyne (26-8 10-0 SAC)

Game One – Lenoir-Rhyne 1, Emory & Henry 0

Game 1 of the doubleheader was a defensive battle through and through. Both pitchers came to play in Game 1, Malorie Reeves (Galax, Va.) finished with only 1 run allowed, 4 hits and 3 strikeouts. The Bears scored their one and only run in the top of the 5th on a single up the middle that bounced just over Reeves' outstretched glove. The lone hit for the Wasps came in the bottom of the 6th with a single down the right field line from Hannah Booth (Longwood, Fla.). E&H managed to get one runner on base in the bottom of the 7th, but the offense would stall leading to LR's 1-0 win.

Game Two – Lenoir-Rhyne 8, Emory & Henry 1
The Bears jumped out to the early lead in Game 2 in the top of the 1st with a 2 run home run from Lani Warren. The Wasps responded in their half of the 1st with a solo shot to dead center field to cut the lead in half. E&H's best chance came on the bottom of the 5th, with back-to-back-to-back singles from Kali Cook (Elkin, N.C.), Laila Rodriguez (Virginia Beach, Va.), and Rachel Hill (Stanardsville, Va.). Street hit a ball to deep center field but Wasps Field was just big enough to hold it for the final out of the inning. Unfortunately for Emory & Henry that would be as close as they would get. Lenoir-Rhyne would add 3 more runs in the top of the 2nd, 1 more in the top of the 3rd and 2 in the top of the 7th to go on to the 8-1 victory.

Up Next
The Wasps stay at home tomorrow against the North Greenville Trailblazers in a midweek non-conference matchup.
