HICKORY, N.C.– The Emory & Henry University Softball Team took on the #1 seeded Lenoir-Rhyne Bears head on in Game 1 of the SAC Tournament Series, falling short 1-0. The Wasps look to bounce back and force a series deciding game 3 tomorrow in Hickory.

LOCATION – Hickory, North Carolina
VENUE – McCrorie Family Stadium
RECORDS – Emory & Henry 0-1; Lenoir-Rhyne 1-0
The Game – Emory & Henry 0, Lenoir-Rhyne 1
The first game of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament for the Wasps was a defensive battle from both programs. Senior Malorie Reeves (Galax, Va.) went the distance in the contest, giving up 6 hits but only 1 earned run and added two strikeouts.
E&H's first chance of the game came in the top of the first with runners on first and second after back to back walks, but the offense would stall. The Wasps' next big chance came a few innings later when Hannah Booth (Longwood, Fla.) laced a double to right field to put herself in scoring position, but that would be as close as she would get.
Lenoir-Rhyne broke through the Wasps' defensive wall in the bottom of the 6th with an RBI single to center field from Alexandria Gray that brought in Chloe Woodward. It would all come down to the top of the 7th inning. Tristyn Tofano (Roanoke, Va.) reached base on a 5 pitch walk setting the away team up with a runner on with one out. Down to their final out E&H battled but grounded out to the pitcher for the final out of the first game of the SAC Series.
