Emory & Henry Women's Basketball Falls To Lenoir-Rhyne, 120-70, Friday Afternoon In SAC Action

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Basketball Team (4-16, 2-12 SAC) dropped its South Atlantic Conference matchup with visiting Lenoir-Rhyne University (16-4, 12-2 SAC) Friday afternoon. The game was moved from Friday due to inclement weather in the area. The Bears led by as many as 58 points, as they rolled to the 120-70 victory.

How It Happened
- The Wasps began the contest on the front foot, scoring the opening five points and quickly establishing a 15-8 advantage through the opening four minutes of action. The Bears woke up through the middle of the quarter and slowly clawed their way back into the game, eventually tying things up at 21-21 with 2:37 remaining. LR finished the frame on an 11-2 run to take the 32-23 lead after the first quarter.
- Lenoir-Rhyne put their foot on the gas to start the first as they saw their lead increase out to 53-28 midway through the stanza. The Bears' margin continued to grow as they shot 48.0% (12-for-25) during the quarter to put up a staggering 37 points and give them a 69-34 after 20 minutes of play.
- The LR advantage eclipsed the 40-point mark for the first time at 81-40 with 6:51 showing on the game clock in the third. The Bears were not done, as they continued to make buckets and reached the century mark at 100-48 through three periods.
- Emory & Henry showed life in the final quarter, outscoring Lenoir-Rhyne 22-20, but it was too little too late as LR earned the win going away, 120-70.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Freshman guard Kinley Painter (Johnson City, Tenn.) led the offensive effort for the Wasps as she had 20 points, five assists, two steals and a rebound. Junior forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) added 11 points, seven boards and an assist.
- Freshman forward Hali Harris (Richmond, Va.) posted 10 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block while junior guard Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) finished with eight points, three boards, two assists and a steal.

Lenoir-Rhyne Individual Leaders
- Tatum Bowen led all scorers as she exploded for 37 points, knocking down 10 jumpers from three-point range, four rebounds, three steals and an assist off of the bench. Abigail Brown had 18 points, four rebounds, one assist and a blocked shot.
- Elyseia Brown collected 13 points, two rebounds and a pair of helpers while Aaliyah El added 12 points, four assists, four steals, three rebounds and a block.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry was 24-for-58 (41.4%) from the floor and shot 27.3% (6-for-22) from long range. The Wasps converted 76.2% (16-for-21) of their attempts from the free throw line.
- Lenoir-Rhyne shot 48.8% (41-for-84) overall and 43.2% (19-for-44) from deep. The Bears were 19-for-22 (86.4%) at the charity stripe.
- Lenoir-Rhyne outrebounded Emory & Henry 47-33 and put up 17 second chance points compared to just seven for the Wasps.
- E&H committed 27 turnovers while LR had 14. The Bears converted those mistakes into a whopping 35 points while the Wasps managed to put up 14 points off of miscues.
- LR forced the ball inside as well, to the tune of a 40-30 advantage on points in the paint.
- The visitors got out in transition, outscoring the Wasps 34-11 on the fastbreak.

- The Wasps hit the road on Wednesday, February 4 when they travel to take on the Lions of Mars Hill University. Tip is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. as the opener of a doubleheader with the men's team.
