Late Rally Sends Catawba Women’s Basketball Past Emory & Henry, 73-67, Saturday Afternoon

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Basketball Team (6-18, 4-14 SAC) led for the majority of its South Atlantic Conference matchup against Catawba College (9-14, 7-11 SAC), but eventually came up on the losing end Saturday afternoon. The Lady Catawba Indians rallied late to take the win by a 73-67 final scoreline.

How It Happened
- The Wasps could not miss from long distance to begin the contest, knocking down five three-point jumpers in the opening three and half minutes to take the 15-7 lead. The teams went back-and-forth down the stretch of the opening quarter, but the Wasps managed to keep Catawba at arm's length to take a 25-18 advantage into the second frame.
- A quick four points from Catawba closed the margin to just three at 25-22, but E&H responded to push it back out to 11 at 37-26 on a three from junior guard Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.). The Lady Catawba Indians rallied with 13 of the next 17 points to close the gap to just a pair at 41-39 with 1:44 left to play in the opening half. E&H drilled a pair of buckets late to maintain a 47-41 lead at the halftime break.
- Emory & Henry managed to keep Catawba at bay for the majority of the third quarter, but the visitors were relentless and finally tied the contest at 54-54 at the 2:26 mark. The squads traded blows through the final two minutes of the period and were deadlocked at 58-58 heading to the fourth quarter.
- The Wasps nosed ahead 62-60 on a layup from freshman center Hannah Miller (Greeneville, Tenn.), but a three moments later from Catawba gave them their first lead of the game at 63-62. The Lady Catawba Indians pushed their advantage out to five at 69-64 as the Wasps struggled to score the basketball, but sophomore guard Tori West (Richmond, Va.) knocked down a big three-point jumper at the 1:38 mark to pull E&H back within a pair at 69-67. That was as close as the Wasps would get however, as Mary Spry was good on a jumper and converted a pair of free throws to seal the SAC win for Catawba. 

Emory & Henry Leaders
- West led the charge offensively for E&H with a team-high 20 points, two rebounds, two steals and an assist. Junior forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) went for 14 points, five boards and an assist while Harris had 13 points, four rebounds, four assists, one steal and a blocked shot.
- Freshman forward Hali Harris (Richmond, Va.) posted her second career double-double with 13 points, a career-high 11 rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals. Freshman guard Kinley Painter (Johnson City, Tenn.) finished with five points, three assists, two rebounds and a steal.

Catawba Individual Leaders
- Spry led all scorers with a game-high 28 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists while Brooklin Ingram had 15 points, seven boards and an assist.
- Saniya Wilson went for 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and a steal off of the bench for Catawba. Sheree Gidney posted eight points and a pair of rebounds in the win. 

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry was 23-for-58 (39.7%) from the floor and 12-for-30 (40.0%) from long range. The Wasps converted 75.0% (9-for-12) of their attempts from the free throw line.
- Catawba shot 46.8% (29-for-62) overall and 36.8% (7-for-19) from three-point range. The Lady Catawba Indians were 8-for-13 (61.5%) at the charity stripe.
- Catawba held a very slight 37-36 advantage on the glass and outscored the Wasps 10-6 on second chance points.
- CC forced 13 E&H turnovers that they turned into 13 points. The Wasps forced the visitors to give up the ball on eight occasions, converting those miscues into nine points.
- Catawba held a 30-20 advantage on points scored in the painted area.
- The visitors' bench put up 23 points, compared to just seven for E&H.
- The contest saw four ties and four lead changes, with the Wasps holding the lead for 27:10 while Catawba led for  just 7:47.
