No. 21 Coker Women’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 81-73, On Senior Day

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Basketball Team (7-21, 5-17 SAC) fell in its 2025-26 season finale to No. 21 nationally-ranked Coker University (22-6, 17-5 SAC) inside the John Rutledge King Center Saturday afternoon. The Wasps honored the senior class of Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) and Payton Monahan (Glade Spring, Va.) prior to tipoff.

How It Happened
- The nationally-ranked Cobras took an early 9-7 lead, but a three-point jumper from junior forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) pushed the Wasps in front at 10-9 at the 4:36 mark of the first quarter. E&H increased its lead to 14-11, but Coker responded with a three of its own to tie the contest at 14-14. A three from sophomore guard Tori West (Richmond, Va.) and a jumper by freshman guard Kinley Painter (Johnson City, Tenn.) gave the Wasps a narrow 19-16 advantage through one period of action.
- An 8-4 run capped off by a jumper from Yarber saw the E&H margin grow to seven points at 27-20 through the first three minutes of the second quarter. Emory & Henry held serve through the middle of the frame and a putback by Yarber maintained the Wasps' advantage at 34-27 at the 2:58 mark. Another three from West gave the Wasps their largest lead of the contest at 39-31 and the home team held a seven-point margin heading into the half.
- The Cobras slowly worked their way back into the contest and managed to tie things up at 47-47 with 5:34 showing on the game clock in the third. Coker pushed their lead out to as many as eight in the third, but back-to-back buckets from junior guard Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) and Yarber just before the end of the stanza closed the gap to four at 59-55 heading into the fourth quarter.
- Coker saw its lead grow to its largest of the contest at the 6:35 mark of the fourth as they pushed things out to double digits for the first time at 70-60. The Wasps battled back and went on an 8-1 run over the following two minutes of action to slice the deficit to just three points at 71-68. That was as close as the home team would get however, as the nation's 21st-ranked team held off the upset-minded Wasps for the 81-73 victory. 

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Yarber ended her career in style as she finished with a game-high 24 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot. She finishes her career with 1408 points, placing her second all-time in program scoring leaders. West posted 19 points, five boards, four assists and a trio of steals.
- Harris went for 11 points, three rebounds, three blocks, two assists and a pair of steals while Painter registered eight points, four assists, two rebounds and a steal. Monahan drained a jumper just before the end of the game to put a cap on her E&H career.

Coker Individual Leaders
- Kristynn Knight paced the Cobras with 21 points, four assists, two rebounds and a steal while Shawnteanna Tillman added 13 points, two rebounds and a pair of steals.
- Dasia Ferguson had 12 points, three rebounds, one assist and a blocked shot while Kamari Thompson collected a double-double of 10 points, 10 rebounds, two steals and a block

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 48.3% (28-for-58) overall and 43.5% (10-for-23) from beyond the three-point line. The Wasps converted 77.8% (7-for-9) of their attempts at the charity stripe.
- Coker was 29-for-61 (47.5%) from the floor and 6-for-15 (40.0%) from three. The Cobras took advantage of their attempts at the free throw line, making 85.0% (17-for-20) of their shots.
- Coker outrebounded E&H by a 35-29 margin and held a slight 14-13 advantage on second chance points.
- The Cobras forced 15 Wasp turnovers that they converted into 23 points. Emory & Henry made Coker cough up the ball on 11 occasions for 12 points.
- CU was successful in the painted area as they scored 40 points compared to 32 for E&H.
- Emory & Henry shared the basketball, recording 17 assists on their 28 made field goals compared to just nine helpers on 29 buckets for the Cobras.
