EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry Women's Lacrosse Team (4-9, 0-8 SAC) gave visiting Coker University (6-10, 2-8 SAC) everything they could handle, but eventually came up just short in South Atlantic Conference action Friday evening. The Cobras outlasted the Wasps by a narrow 12-10 final score. Emory & Henry honored the graduating class of Mina Hicks (Lexington Park, Md.), Riley Firebaugh (Roanoke, Va.), Kaitlyn Evans (Gambrills, Md.) and Cyrianna Lee (Tampa, Fla.) before the game.

How It Happened
- Coker opened the scoring with a free-position goal just over two minutes into the contest, but the Wasps answered back. Hicks tallied her first score on an assist from junior attacker Logan Pekala (Vinton, Va.) at the 11:40 mark and sophomore attacker Bethany Beecher (Roanoke, Va.) struck two and a half minutes later on an assist from Hicks to give E&H the 2-1 lead. The Cobras scored twice to end the period with a 3-2 advantage.
- Freshman midfielder Whitney Holland (Rocky Mount, Va.) tied things up 70 seconds into the second period on a free-position shot to make it 3-3. Coker scored the next goal, but Holland responded with 11:34 on the clock to knot the score at 4-4. The visiting Cobras closed the half with a pair of goals to take the 6-4 lead into the halftime break.
- CU opened things up to begin the second half, scoring four unanswered goals to push their lead out to 10-4. Junior midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) broke the streak with a goal on an assist from freshman midfielder Alex Costello (Johnson City, Tenn.). Coker scored their 11th goal with 18 seconds left in the period, but Hicks had the last say as she registered a goal as time expired to reduce the deficit to 11-6.
- Hicks was hot to begin the fourth period as she scored on a free-position shot just 23 seconds into the period and followed that 24 seconds later with a goal on an assist from freshman midfielder Madison Stewart (Blacksburg, Va.). Stewart recorded a goal of her own on an assist from sophomore attacker Brooklyn Halter (Alcoa, Tenn.) at the 12:47 mark to bring the Wasps back within a pair at 11-9. The Cobras got back in the score column with 11:10 on the clock, but Hicks capitalized on another free-position opportunity at the 7:36 mark. The Wasps continued to press, creating multiple chances but could not finish as the visitors from Hartsville escaped with the 12-10 win.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Hicks led the way for E&H with five goals and an assist with five ground balls, five draw controls and a caused turnover. Holland finished with two goals, one ground ball and a caused turnover. Jones posted one goal, eight draw controls and four ground balls.
- Sophomore defender Reagan Koom (Omaha, Neb.) caused three turnovers and picked up a pair of ground balls while Firebaugh added two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
- Evans finished with 10 saves in goal for the Wasps.
Coker Individual Leaders
- Kaiya Sabur and Kate Halcro each paced Coker with four goals while Mia MacMillan added two. Madeline Fontana and Leah Corley added one score each.
- Olivia Schmidt and Harper Davidson combined for 17 saves in the win.
