How It Happened
- The Pioneers were first out of the gate as they recorded the opening three scores of the game, but E&H answered back at the 11:47 mark when senior attacker Mina Hicks (Lexington Park, Md.) scored unassisted to make it 3-1. Tusculum would add two more goals to push their advantage out to four, but again Emory & Henry had a response. Junior midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) found the back of the net on an assist from freshman midfielder Madison Stewart (Blacksburg, Va.), then Hicks dished to freshman midfielder Whitney Holland (Rocky Mount, Va.) with 2:11 remaining in the quarter to pull the Wasps back within a pair at 5-3. TU added a goal just before the end of the quarter for the 6-3 lead.
- The home team dominated the scoreboard in the second quarter, tallying the opening three goals. Stewart got one back on a free-position shot at the 10:43 mark, but the Pioneers finished the period with five unanswered goals to take a 14-4 lead into the halftime break.
- Tusculum began the second half on the front foot with the first two goals, but Hicks broke through with goals at the 9:38 and 7:09 marks to cut the deficit back to 16-6. That was the end of the scoring for the Wasps as the TU defense locked in as their offense struck for seven consecutive goals to take the 23-6 victory.
