Emory & Henry Men’s Wrestling Competes At King Open Sunday

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry University Men's Wrestling Team continued its 2025-26 season at the King Open Sunday. The Wasps saw seven wrestlers compete over six weight classes, and earned three top-six finishes.

125 Pounds
- Freshman Landen Wilson (West Jefferson, N.C.) received a first-round bye, then was pinned in 1:04 by Patrick Burdsall in the second round. Wilson rebounded with a win by pinfall in 1:41 over Liberty's Landon Starnes in his first consolation bout. He then bowed out of the tournament by fall against Jorden Williams of Fairmont State. 

157 Pounds
- Freshman Isaac Hensley (Vilas, N.C.) earned a bye in the first round, before dropping a 17-1 technical fall to King's Joe Bertrand. Hensley responded with a win by fall in 3:44 against Samuel Childs of Montevallo in his first consolation bout. Issac then came up short by fall to Davis & Elkins' Geovani Santos in the third-place bout to take home fourth. 

165 Pounds
- Junior Sebastian Gabarrete (Jeffersonton, Va.) opened his day with a dominant 17-1 technical fall victory over Liberty's Anthony Saget. He then followed up with another win, this time by an 18-3 technical fall margin against Luke Berguson of Montevallo. Gabarrete then suffered back-to-back losses by a 20-3 technical fall to William Brooks and a tough 8-3 decision to Matox Allen of Liberty. He finished the competition strong with a pin of UNC Pembroke's Kody Sigmon in 0:59 to finish in fifth.

174 Pounds
- Freshman Waylon Holt (Jefferson City, Tenn.) started strong with a pin against Angel Turner of Montreat in his first-round bout. He then was pinned in 1:09 by Clinton Morrisette of King in the second championship round. His day ended with a loss by pinfall against King's Jamar Morris in his first consolation bout. 

184 Pounds
- Freshman Raul Lopez-Aguilar got off to a hot start Sunday, pinning Montevallo's Logan Ward in 2:13 in his opening championship bout. He followed that win another hard-fought victory by a 3-1 decision over Hayven Jenkins of Newberry in the second round. Lopez-Aguilar suffered a 21-5 technical fall defeat at the hands of King's Luke Justice in the third championship round, then was defeated by an 18-3 technical fall margin against Trip Cole in his first consolation bout. Lopez-Aguilar was defeated by fall by UNC Pembroke's Samuel Bartholomew in the fifth-place bout to finish in sixth. 

285 Pounds
- Freshman Seaton Tallent (Dandridge, Tenn.) received a first-round bye, then was pinned in 3:21 by Rylan Madison of Newberry in his first championship contest. He was then defeated by pinfall in 5:33 against Montreat's Reese Ferm to end his day.
- Freshman Daniel Silver (Scotland Neck, N.C.) was defeated by fall in 2:32 by Chance Jackson of Newberry in his first bout of the day. He bowed out of the tournament when he was pinned by Fairmont State's Connor Facemire in 1:31.
