Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Battles To Scoreless Draw At Coker Saturday Afternoon

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Emory & Henry Women's Soccer Team (5-2-2, 1-2-2 SAC) picked up an important point in the South Atlantic Conference standings Saturday as the Wasps fought Coker University (4-2-3, 1-2-2) for 90 minutes, but neither team could find a game-deciding goal.

The Basics
FINAL SCORE – Emory & Henry 0, Coker 0
LOCATION – Hartsville, South Carolina
VENUE – Coker Athletic Field
RECORDS – Emory & Henry (5-2-2, 1-1-2 SAC); Coker (4-2-2, 1-1-1 SAC)

How It Happened
- The teams began the contest neck-and-neck as they traded shots at the opposition's goal. The Cobras fired three attempts and the Wasps responded with a shot on goal of their own, but the score remained tied at 0-0. Both squads struggled to create chances through the second half of the opening stanza as the Cobras recorded the lone attempt over the final 28 minutes of gameplay. Junior goalkeeper Sophia Wagner (Front Royal, Va.) was strong in goal, making a pair to keep Coker off the scoreboard and send the game into the half still scoreless.
- CU forced Wagner into action twice in the opening five minutes of the second frame, but Wagner was up to the task as she made a pair of saves. E&H fought back with the following two shots from freshman forward Annie Becker (Dallas, Texas) and junior forward/midfielder Charlotte Stavis (N.C.) that Coker goalkeeper Rhyan Parkin stopped to keep things level. The Wasps had two final attempts in the last two minutes of the game, but Parkin once more was there and the teams had to settle for a share of the points.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Seven different Wasps finished with one attempt each, with five of those finding the target.
- Wagner posted six saves in net for the Wasps to earn the draw.

Coker Individual Leaders
- Alexis Spivey led all players with three shots that were all on frame. Ella Wilke and Tilde Karlsson posted two shots apiece.
- Parkin registered five stops for the Cobras.

Up Next
- The Wasps are back at home on Wednesday, October 8 when they host the Trojans of Virginia State University. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. from the Food City Sports Complex.
