Last-Minute Goal Gives Tusculum Women’s Soccer 1-0 Win Over Emory & Henry Wednesday Evening

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Emory & Henry Women's Soccer Team (6-3-2, 1-2-2 SAC) battled all evening, but a last-second goal by Tusculum University (5-5-2, 3-2-1 SAC) was the deciding factor, as the Pioneers escaped with a South Atlantic Conference win. The lone goal of the contest came with just 29 seconds left on the clock to propel the Pioneers to a 1-0 victory.

The Basics
FINAL SCORE – Tusculum 1, Emory & Henry 0
LOCATION – Greeneville, Tennessee
VENUE – Pioneer Field
RECORDS – Emory & Henry (6-3-2, 1-2-2 SAC); Tusculum (5-5-2, 3-2-1 SAC)

How It Happened
- The Wasps controlled possession in the early stages of the match and freshman forward Annie Becker (Dallas, Texas) had a great opportunity to put E&H on the board first in the 5th minute, but a goal line clearance by the Pioneers kept things scoreless. TU had the next three chances at goal and junior goalkeeper Sophia Wagner (Front Royal, Va.) was up to the task as she made a pair of saves for Emory & Henry. Junior forward/midfielder Charlotte Stavis (Charlotte, N.C.) put a shot on frame that was saved by Tusculum keeper Noemie Tartrou in the 34th minute. TU finished the half on the front foot, taking the final three shots which were all stopped by Wagner and the two teams went into the locker room all square at 0-0.
- E&H forced Tartrou into action on three separate occasions in the opening 15 minutes of the second frame, but she stood tall to keep the Wasps off of the scoreboard. The Pioneers began to ask questions of the Wasps' back line as they created the next eight scoring chances over the following 25 minutes of play, but still neither squad could break through. It looked as if the teams would have to settle for a draw, but Marja Enste finally opened the scoring in the final minute of play to put the Pioneers ahead for good at 1-0.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Stavis led the Wasps with four shots, all of which were on target. Junior forward Siena Booth (Wesley Chapel, Fla.) had a pair of shots while Becker had the other attempt for E&H.
- Wagner finished with seven saves in net for Emory & Henry.

Tusculum Individual Leaders
- Enste scored the goal on her lone attempt on frame of the contest. Addison Rishling paced Tusculum with four shots, two on goal, while McKenzie Hanson, Kirsten Sadlon and Sydney Grant each had a pair of attempts.
- Tartrou registered five saves in the win for Tusculum.
