UVA Wise Women’s Tennis Defeats Emory & Henry

WISE, Va. - The Emory & Henry University Men's Tennis Team (0-16, 0-9 SAC) and Women's Tennis Team (3-13, 1-8 SAC) fell to the University of Virginia's College at Wise in South Atlantic Conference competition Tuesday afternoon.

Men's Match
- The doubles team of sophomore Leo Knothe (Hanover, GERMANY) and freshman Bangalie Turay (Las Vegas, Nev.) were tied 5-5 at No. 1 doubles, but their match was left unfinished. The Cavaliers took wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to lead 1-0.
- Senior Nathan Spurling (Abingdon, Va.) forced a third set, but fell 6-3, 0-6, 1-6 to Miguel De Rueda at No. 1 singles.
- Turay was defeated 2-6, 2-6 by Mario Viana in their No. 2 singles match.
- Keenan Glago (Harrisonburg, Va.) took the set second and was trailing 2-6, 6-4, 1-4 to Mustafa Raja at No. 3 singles.
- Knothe dropped a 4-6, 1-6 decision to Arne Fassbender in their No. 4 singles match.
- Senior Tristan Hicks (Abingdon, Va.) won the second set and was behind 2-6, 6-3, 2-5 at No. 5 singles to Ege Uzun.
- Senior Gus Senn (Charlotte, N.C.) dominated the first set and lost a close second set as he trailed 6-0, 5-7, 2-4 in a nailbiter against Miguel Ruiz at No. 6 singles.

Women's Match
- The Wasps won No. 3 doubles by default, but Wise earned a sweep of the other two doubles matches to jump ahead 1-0.
- Olivia Pursley (Hendersonville, N.C.) fell to Kenzy Abdelaal 2-6, 2-6 in their No. 1 singles match.
- Sophomore Tahnne Sesma (Zumaia, SPAIN) was defeated 1-6, 2-6 against Constanca Azinhaga at No. 2 singles.
- Sophomore Ellyson Kovacs (Bristol, Tenn.) took the opening set, but trailed Juliana Bastidas 6-1, 0-6, 1-5 at No. 3 singles.
- Senior Katie Bradley (Auchterarder, SCOTLAND) was trailing 4-6, 5-4 against Lucy Cunliffe at No. 4 singles.
- Freshman Sarah McClure (Lansing, N.C.) was swept 0-6, 1-6 by Melissa Lino Airoldi in their No. 5 singles match.
- Junior Meghan Moore (Midlothian, Va.) won by default at No. 6 singles to earn a point for the Wasps.
