Coker Volleyball Defeats Emory & Henry, 3-1, Friday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Volleyball Team (2-7, 0-2 SAC) fell in South Atlantic Conference play to Coker University (6-4, 2-0 SAC) in the Wasps' home opener Friday evening. The Cobras earned the win by scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-14 and 25-10.

How It Happened
- The teams went back-and-forth to begin the match, but the Cobras ripped off six straight points to give themselves a 14-8 advantage. E&H responded with six of the next seven to pull within just one at 15-14. Coker kicked into gear once more in the latter stages of the set and held a 23-18 lead. Emory & Henry drew within three at 23-20, but the Cobras sealed the deal with two of the final three points to take the opener 25-21.
- It was another tight start to the second frame as the two squads were all square at 9-9. The Wasps rallied with a 10-3 run through the middle of the set to run out to a 19-12 margin. Coker closed the gap to a pair at 21-19 until the Wasps finished the frame with a flurry to take the win 25-21 and level the match.
- Coker controlled the third set throughout as they saw their lead reach double digits on multiple occasions. E&H trimmed the deficit to eight at 22-14, but the visitors won three straight points to take the stanza 25-14.
- Coker once again took the set by the scruff of the neck as they quickly established an 18-5 lead. The Cobras pushed their margin out to as many as 16 in the fourth as they closed out the win by a 25-10 scoreline. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) led the Wasps with six kills, six blocks, two digs and a pair of service aces. Junior middle Haley Harnichar (Sevierville, Tenn.) added six kills and three blocks while sophomore outside hitter Tori Boling (Tega Cay, S.C.) finished with seven kills, eight digs, two blocks and an assist.
- Sophomore setter Zoie Pace (Collinsville, Va.) had a team-high 16 assists, three digs and a service ace for the Wasps. Freshman setter Sydni Davis (Cornelius, N.C.) went for 10 assists, eight digs and a service ace while fellow freshman libero Gracy Lasig (Knoxville, Tenn.) had a match-high 14 digs, four service aces and an assist.

Coker Individual Leaders
- Alyssa Carey paced the Cobras with a match-high 14 kills, 10 digs, three service aces and a pair of digs while Cayla Gilmore posted 10 kills, three digs and a block.
- Cheyenne Bird registered a match-high 19 assists, 11 digs and three service aces to go along with Maddy Roberts's 17 assists, eight digs, two service aces and a kill.

- Emory & Henry is back at home on Tuesday, September 23 when the Wasps host Lincoln Memorial University for its annual Morgan's Message Game. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from the John Rutledge King Center.
