Emory & Henry Volleyball Drops SAC Decision To Catawba Friday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Volleyball Team (3-12, 0-6 SAC) fell in straight sets to Catawba College (4-6, 1-4 SAC) inside the John Rutledge King Center Friday evening. The Lady Catawba Indians earned the victory by scores of 25-23, 25-16 and 25-20.

How It Happened
- It was a tight match to begin the first set as the two teams traded points and the Wasps clung to a narrow 14-13 advantage. Catawba jumped ahead 17-15, but E&H responded with four consecutive points to put themselves in the pole position at 19-17. The visitors would take seven of the next nine chances to reach match point. Emory & Henry closed the gap to just one at 24-23, but Catawba closed the door to take the opener 25-23.
- Catawba was on top to start the second frame, running out to a quick 13-6 lead. The Lady Catawba Indians continued to press the Wasps and reached set point once again at 24-13. E&H won three straight to cut into the deficit, but Catawba ended the run to take the set 25-16 and give themselves a commanding two-set advantage.
- The third frame was another tough battle that saw Catawba hold a 12-10 margin through the early stages. The visitors managed to create some breathing room for themselves through the middle of the set and established a 20-14 lead. The Wasps rallied with four of the following five points to close the gap to three at 21-18, but Catawba was up to the task as they posted four of the final six chances to take the set and the match 25-20.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior middle Haley Harnichar (Sevierville, Tenn.) led the Wasps with five kills and four blocks while senior middle Gracyn Miller (Lilburn, Ga.) posted three kills, four blocks and four digs. Junior outside hitter Grace Duey (Tega Cay, S.C.) added five kills, two digs and an assist in addition to sophomore outside hitter Tori Boling's (Tega Cay, S.C.) four kills, nine digs, two blocks and an assist.
- Sophomore setter Zoie Pace (Collinsville, Va.) had a team-high 12 assists, eight digs and a pair of service aces. Freshman libero Gracy Lasig (Knoxville, Tenn.) recorded eight digs, two assists and a service ace.

Catawba Individual Leaders
- Sofia Beard led all players with 13 kills, seven digs and a block while Lillie Kate Rogers had 10 kills, three digs and a block. Martina Foster collected five kills, four blocks, three digs, two service aces and an assist.
- Haley Moffett posted a double-double with 18 assists, 12 digs and a pair of service aces. Tamie Boudot had a match-high 22 assists, seven digs and a service ace and Riley Hill finished with a match-high 23 digs and three helpers.

- Emory & Henry is at home on Tuesday, October 7 when the Wasps host Southwest Virginia rival the University of Virginia's College at Wise for Greek Night. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from the John Rutledge King Center.
