Emory & Henry Women’s Wrestling Posts Strong Showing In Lindsey Wilson Open Saturday

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Wrestling Team competed in its final open tournament of the regular season on Saturday at the Lindsey Wilson Open. Five of the Wasps' seven wrestlers finished in the top six of their respective weight classes.

117-Pound Weight Class
Sophomore Natalia Sanchez (Powhatan, Va.) opened her day with a win by fall over Rodiat Adeduntan of Lindsey Wilson in 50 seconds. She lost by fall (5:12) to Brewton-Parker's Jamesa Robinson, the No. 16-ranked wrestler in NAIA before closing out the tournament with a win over Catherin Head from LWC in 2:45 to finish second.

124-Pound Weight Class
Sophomore Madison Wilson (Henrico, Va.) went 3-3 in a seven-wrestler round-robin to take fourth. She earned a trio of wins by technical superiority over Kylie Conley (10-0; 0:29), Karli Nethamer (10-0; 2:04) and BPC's Adeline Harper (11-0; 1:09). Wilson also had a hard-fought loss to NAIA No. 17 Sydney Bridenstine from Lindsey Wilson.

145-Pound Weight Class
Sophomore Molly Keller (Fairlawn, Va.) opened the tournament by pinning Oreal Johnson from Indiana in 16 seconds. She lost a 10-6 decision to NAIA No. 16 Lexi Ritchie of Lindsey Wilson in the semifinals before bouncing back to pin Brooke Higdon in 1:03 to place third.

Sophomore Natalie Giocondo (Dumfries, Va.) went 0-2, falling to both Higdon (:38) and Rio Grande's Kara Bebout (1:33).

160-Pound Weight Class
Freshman Rihana Carson (Roanoke, Va.) placed sixth, losing 11-1 in her first bout of the day to Campbellsville's Kylie Tait. She beat Hayli Carbajal from Greensboro by a 10-0 score in 1:27 to advance to the fifth-place bout where she fell to Meghan Werbrich of Campbellsville in 2:41.

207-Pound Weight Class
Senior Emma Lozada (Princeton, Texas) suffered a pair of losses by fall in a three-wrestler round robin to Alyssa Pinkston (Lindsey Wilson – 2:27) and Destiny Vaughans (Greensboro – 2:21).
