Women's Wrestling splits with Allen (S.C.) and King (Tenn.) Friday evening.

EMORY, VA. – The Emory & Henry Women's Wrestling Team split their Tri-Match on Friday evening. The Wasps would pick up their first dual win of the season against Allen, (S.C.) 23-20 before falling to King (Tenn.) 35-7 to finish the night. 

The Basics

Allen (S.C.)
- The first 3 bouts of the night were forfeited due to unfilled weight classes, 103 was a double forfeit, 110 and 117 went in favor of the Yellow Jackets. Junior Madison Wilson (Henrico, Va.) pinned Rihanna Loomis in the closing seconds of the first period to secure E&H's first point of the contest. The next two bouts would also be forfeits, one for each side Mak Robinson (Spotsylvania, Va.) took the 131 and JahMya Hill took the 138. 

- Junior Molly Keller (Fairlawn, Va.) at 145 was up next against Neveah Smith, her match would go the distance with neither competitor able to get much of and upperhand. Keller would come out victorious from the 5-4 decision. Sophomore Rihana Carson (Roanoke, Va.) would keep things rolling for the Wasps as she would get a pinfall victory over Nichya Pemberton in the middle of the second period. 

- Senior Ella Tallent (Dandridge, Tenn.) fell by technical superiority in her match against Jayden Holmes 15 seconds into the second period. The final bout of the contest took place between Freshman Allison Gabarrete (Jeffersonton, Va.) and Morgann Thomas. Gabarrete would secure the pin in 1:46 proving they were the superior stinging insect taking down the Yellow Jackets 23-20. 

King (Tenn.)

- Much like the match against Allen, the first 3 weight classes (103,110,117) were all forfeits in favor of the Tornado. In the bout at 124, Madison Wilson fell by technical superiority 10-0 early in the second period. In the next bout Mak Robinson would be pinned in :50 seconds by Joy Cantu. The match at 138 would be a double forfeit. 

- Molly Keller would go up against Ruby Julien-Newsom in the bout at 145. Things did not start off well for Keller as she would find herself down by 8 early, nearly succumbing to a technical superiority. Keller would work all the way back over the next few minutes to take the lead and she never looked back. The match would come down the final whistle which saw Keller come out on top 14-9. 

- The remaining 3 matches would go back and forth for both teams. Rihana Carson would pick up another win by technical superiority over Kristyn Harr 14-4. Stella Steigler would also win by technical superiority 10-0 over Ella Tallent. And Allison Gabarrete was pinned by Eliana Bommarito in the first period.

The Wasps are back in action this upcoming Tuesday, February 3rd as they travel to Newberry, South Carolina to take on Newberry and Mount Olive in another Tri-Match.
