How It Happened
- The Wasps began the game on the front foot and a layup from junior guard Jackson Crawford (Daleville, Va.) gave them a 12-7 lead through seven minutes of action. The Saints battled back through the middle of the frame and managed to tie things up at 16-16 with just over six minutes remaining in the opening stanza. E&H gave itself some breathing room over the following three minutes of play and a bucket by sophomore forward Isaac Hymes (Phoenix, Ariz.) pushed the Wasps' margin out to seven at 25-18. Flagler closed the gap to three, but sophomore guard Korbin Dixon (Milton, Ontario, CANADA) converted a layup just before the half to give E&H the 33-28 lead heading into the locker room.
- Emory & Henry shot the ball well to begin the second frame and a pair of free throws by junior guard Jaden Andrew (St. John's, ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA) gave them their largest lead of the contest at 42-33. The Saints responded with an 11-2 run to knot the score once more at 44-44 with 11:33 to play. The squads went back-and-forth down the stretch of the second half and still could not be separated with the score still tied at 63-63. The Wasps had three straight attempts to win the game in regulation, but could not convert and the contest went into overtime.
- Flagler ran out to a 70-66 lead over the first three minutes and change of the extra period, but the Wasps would not go away easily. The visitors from Emory stormed back to tie the game at 70-70 with just 39 seconds left on the clock. Crawford came up clutch for the Wasps with seven seconds remaining as he drained a three, was fouled on the play and converted from the charity stripe to give E&H the 74-70 lead. Crawford made two more from the line after Flagler was tagged with a technical foul and Emory & Henry clinched the 78-72 overtime victory.
