EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Men's Basketball Team (14-10, 9-9 SAC) came up on the short end of a South Atlantic Conference showdown to Catawba College (18-6, 13-5 SAC) inside the John Rutledge King Center Saturday evening. The Catawba Indians led the entire way to earn the 78-65 victory.

How It Happened
- The Catawba Indians began the game as the aggressors, taking a 14-9 lead through the opening six minutes of action. The score stood at 18-16 in favor of the visitors, but a 9-0 run saw their lead grow to double digits for the first time at 27-16 with 6:08 left in the first. E&H cut the deficit to seven at 35-28, but Catawba finished the half with a 7-0 run to take a 42-28 margin into the break.
- Catawba continued to knock down shots to start the second half and their advantage remained 10 at 51-41 at the 14:51 mark. The Wasps never could quite get things going offensively throughout the contest as the Catawba Indians managed to maintain their double-digit lead. The visitors saw their advantage grow to as many as 15 late in the second half as they earned the win by a 78-65 final score.
Emory & Henry Leaders
- Sophomore guard Korbin Dixon (Milton, Ontario, CANADA) had 14 points, five assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals while junior guard Jackson Crawford (Daleville, Va.) went for 14 points, two assists, one rebound and a steal.
- Freshman guard Melchior Hughes (Geneva, SWITZERLAND) posted nine points, four boards and an assist while junior guard Jaden Andrew (St. John's, ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA) recorded nine points, three assists and a steal.
Catawba Individual Leaders
- Ibra Athie finished with 14 points, four rebounds, three assists, two steals and a pair of blocked shots to lead Catawba. Nick Walker added 14 points, six rebounds, one assist and a steal off of the bench.
- Justin Banks registered 13 points, seven rebounds, five blocks, two steals and an assist while Jordan Simpson went for 11 points, five boards, one assist and a steal.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 41.8% (23-for-55) overall and 41.7% (10-for-24) from three-point range. The Wasps were 9-for-11 (81.8%) at the free throw line.
- Catawba finished shooting 31-for-71 (43.7%) from the floor and 5-for-16 (31.3%) from deep. The Catawba Indians converted 78.6% (11-for-14) of their tries from the charity stripe.
- Catawba outrebounded the Wasps 40-33 and put up 17 second chance points compared to just seven for E&H.
- The visitors forced a season-high 22 Wasp turnovers, converting those mistakes into 31 points. E&H had 13 takeaways, but managed just 12 points off of those miscues.
