Emory & Henry Women’s Lacrosse Comes Up Short At Davis & Elkins Saturday

ELKINS, W.Va. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Lacrosse Team (0-3) fell in non-conference play to Davis & Elkins College (1-0) Saturday afternoon. The Senators ran out to an 11-2 halftime lead, then put up nine more second-half goals on their way to the 20-4 win.

How It Happened
- The Senators struck for four unanswered goals in the first quarter to take the early 4-0 lead. Davis & Elkins recorded the first two scores of the second, until the Wasps broke up the run at the 12:23 mark. Graduate student attack Mary Martinez (Estado de Mexico, MEXICO) scored unassisted to reduce the deficit to 6-1. D&E would go on to score the next four goals, but E&H got back on the board with 3:28 left in the half. Sophomore Alex Costello (Johnson City, Tenn.) took a pass from junior attack Avery McHargue (Weaverville, N.C.) and beat the Senator goalie to make it 10-2. The home team would add one more score to take the 11-2 advantage into the halftime break.
- Davis & Elkins scored all six goals in the third quarter to run their margin out to 17-2. After two more goals from the Senators, the Wasps answered back at the 9:41 mark with Martinez's second goal of the day, assisted by senior midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) to make it 19-3. Jones scored a tally of her own 59 seconds later to bring the scoreline to 19-4. The Senators would round out the scoring with one final goal with 1:05 on the clock to send the match to its final at 20-4.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Martinez paced the Wasps with two goals and a pair of ground balls while Jones had one goal, one assist, four ground balls and three draw controls.
- Senior Carlie Dryden (Owings Mills, Md.) had a pair of caused turnovers and collected two ground balls. Costello finished with one goal, two ground balls and a pair of draw controls for the Wasps.
- Freshman goalie Madison Weaver (Forest, Va.) recorded a career-high 19 saves and caused one turnover in net for E&H.

Davis & Elkins Individual Leaders
- Morgan Rogers led the Senators with four goals, one assist and four ground balls. Savannah Quave and Malia Galan each finished with three goals while four other Senators had a pair of goals each.
- Megan Bauer made nine stops in goal for D&E in the win.

- The Wasps open their 2026 home slate on Wednesday, February 18 against Lees-McRae College. First draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from the Food City Sports Complex.
