EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Lacrosse Team (3-5) made it back-to-back wins Thursday afternoon, defeating Edinboro University (1-2) in non-conference action. The Wasps put up five second-half goals on their way to a 9-7 victory.

How It Happened
- The Fighting Scots were first on the scoreboard at the 14:04 mark for the early 1-0 lead, but the Wasps would strike back with three unanswered goals. Sophomore midfielder Whitney Holland (Rocky Mount, Va.) was first to score unassisted with 9:09 on the clock. Graduate student attack Mary Martinez (Estado de Mexico, MEXICO) converted a free-position opportunity 45 seconds later and then assisted junior attack Bethany Beecher (Roanoke, Va.) with 6:01 remaining in the first period to make it 3-1. Edinboro would score the final two goals of the frame to tie things up at 3-3.
- Edinboro continued to score as they tallied goals at the 8:00 mark and 6:43 mark to make it 5-3. Holland found the back of the net with 3:11 remaining in the half to cut the deficit to 5-4 heading into the halftime break.
- The visitors opened the scoring in the second half at the 10:47 mark on a player-up advantage, but Emory & Henry would respond just over two minutes later. Senior midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) found junior attack Avery McHargue (Weaverville, N.C.) to bring the Wasps back within one and Beecher dished to McHargue once more with 2:26 showing on the clock to knot the score at 6-6 at the end of the third period.
- McHargue continued her scoring tear to start the fourth as she scored on the player-up opportunity on an assist from Beecher, then scored an unassisted goal with 7:51 remaining to push the E&H advantage to two goals at 8-6. Edinboro would get a goal back just over a minute later to draw back within one, but Jones put the game on ice with an unassisted player-up goal with 4:36 to play to send the score to its final at 9-7.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- McHargue paced the Wasps with four goals and a pair of ground balls while Jones finished with one goal, one assist, five ground balls, four draw controls and three caused turnovers. Holland added a pair of goals, one draw control and a caused turnover while Beecher had one goal, two assists and three ground balls.
- Junior defender Megan D'Amore (Mooresville, N.C.) led the Wasps defensively with four ground balls, two draw controls and three caused turnovers. Martinez recorded one goal, one assist and caused one turnover.
- Freshman goalie Madison Weaver (Forest, Va.) had a career-high 12 saves and caused two turnovers to earn her first career win in net for E&H.
Edinboro Individual Leaders
- Jacqui Detelich led the Fighting Scots with three goals, three ground balls and a draw control. Angelina Anderson went for two goals, one assist, four ground balls and a caused turnover.
- Addy Ours kept Edinboro in the contest as she finished with 13 saves and a ground ball.
