EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Lacrosse Team (3-7, 0-4 SAC) fell in South Atlantic Conference play to Newberry College (6-5, 3-1 SAC) Saturday. The Wolves scored 10 goals in the first half and six more in the second as they took the win by a 16-2 final.

How It Happened
- The Wolves scored three in the first and seven more in the second to take a 10-0 advantage into the halftime break. Newberry continued to score in the third quarter, putting up three more unanswered goals to push their lead out to 13-0. After two more NC goals to start the fourth, the Wasps broke through at the 4:21 mark when junior attack Bethany Beecher (Roanoke, Va.) converted on a free-position shot to make it 15-1. The Wolves struck again with 1:09 left, but Beecher had the final say as she tallied an unassisted goal in the dying seconds to send the match to its final score at 16-2.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Beecher finished with two goals and a ground ball while sophomore Ella Bramer (East Amherst, N.Y.) recorded a game-high three ground balls and caused one turnover. Senior midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) went for two ground balls and a pair of draw controls while junior defender Megan D'Amore (Mooresville, N.C.) had one ground ball, three draw controls and caused one turnover.
- Freshman goalie Ella James (Roanoke, Va.) had a career-high 13 saves, two ground balls and a caused turnover in just 30 minutes of action. Fellow freshman Madison Weaver (Forest, Va.) finished with nine saves and a pair of ground balls in relief.
Newberry Individual Leaders
- Jadie Burns, Shannon Creagh and Lana Howell all finished with three goals to pace the Wolves. Tunie Mullen added two goals in the win.
- Catherin Downes registered four saves in net to earn the win for Newberry.
Up Next
- The Wasps are on the road next Saturday, March 28 when they face off against the nationally-ranked Bulldogs of Wingate University. First draw is set for noon from Irwin Belk Stadium.
