EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Lacrosse Team (4-9) fell on Senior Night to non-conference opponent Southern Wesleyan University (4-10) Tuesday evening. The Wasps honored the graduating class of Carlie Dryden (Owings Mills, Md.), Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.), Natalie Harris (Hillsville, Va.), Mary Martinez (Estado de Mexico, MEXICO), Isabel Sanchez (Durham, N.C.) and Bethany Beecher (Roanoke, Va.) prior to the game.

How It Happened
- Sophomore midfielder Alex Costello (Johnson City, Tenn.) opened the scoring at the 5:52 as she converted on a free-position shot to make it 1-0. SWU would respond with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 advantage into the second quarter. E&H got back on the board with 8:58 remaining in the second when junior attack Avery McHargue (Weaverville, N.C.) found Beecher, who beat the goalie to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Warriors would respond with back-to-back goals, but Martinez broke up the run with 59 seconds remaining in the half on a player-up goal on an assist from Beecher. Costello added her second tally of the night just 27 seconds later on a helper from Jones and the score stood at 5-4 heading into the half.
- Emory & Henry kept the momentum going to begin the third quarter as Beecher dished to Jones to tie the game at 5-5, and Jones struck again with 9:55 showing on the clock on a free-position opportunity to give the Wasps the lead at 6-5. McHargue rounded out the scoring rally with a goal on an assist from Jones and E&H led 7-5. SWU answered back with four consecutive goals of their own to jump ahead 9-7. Martinez converted another free-position shot just before the end of the quarter to cut the gap to 9-8. Southern Wesleyan tallied the first goal of the fourth period, but Martinez scored on an assist from McHargue to pull back within one at 10-9. It was all Warriors from that point as the visitors from Central, South Carolina reeled off four straight goals to push their advantage out to 14-9. McHargue scored her second goal of the night on a free-position shot with 2:10 left, but the Warriors put the icing on the win with their final goal with only 19 seconds remaining to take the win by a 15-10 final score.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Jones finished with two goals, two assists, five ground balls, five draw controls and a team-high six caused turnovers. McHargue registered two goals, two assists and a ground ball while Martinez has three goals, three ground balls, one draw control and a caused turnover.
- Junior defender Megan D'Amore (Mooresville, N.C.) led the defense with five ground balls, four caused turnovers and a team-high seven draw controls.
- Freshman goalie Madison Weaver (Forest, Va.) made 12 saves and scooped up a pair of ground balls while causing one turnover.
Southern Wesleyan Individual Leaders
- Caelyn Little led the way for the Warriors as she went for four goals, five assists and six ground balls. Alex Simpson added four goals while Taylor Townsend had a hat trick of scores.
- Amanda Erikson finished with five saves in net to earn the win.

- The Wasps return to South Atlantic Conference action this Saturday, April 11 when they host the Lady Catawba Indians of Catawba College. First draw is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. from the Food City Sports Complex.
