Catawba Women’s Lacrosse Earns 15-1 Win Over Emory & Henry Saturday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Lacrosse Team (4-11, 1-7 SAC) fell to Catawba College (6-8, 2-5 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play Saturday evening. The Catawba Indians established an 11-1 halftime lead and held on for the 15-1 win.

How It Happened
- Catawba scored the first 10 goals of the contest, including six in the first quarter, but Emory & Henry broke up the run with 1:56 remaining in the second quarter. Senior attack Bethany Beecher (Roanoke, Va.) tallied an unassisted goal, her 10th of the season, to cut the deficit to 10-1. Catawba would add one more score before the half for an 11-1 advantage. Neither team could break through in the third quarter, but the Catawba Indians added four more goals in the fourth quarter for the 15-1 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Beecher recorded the lone goal of the game for the Wasps on her lone shot, while adding two ground balls and a caused turnover. Senior midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) registered a team-high five ground balls and a caused turnover while junior defender Megan D'Amore (Mooresville, N.C.) went for four ground balls, a team-high four draw controls and a team-high three caused turnovers.
- Freshman goalie Ella James (Roanoke, Va.) made seven saves and picked up four ground balls in goal while fellow freshman Madison Weaver (Forest, Va.) collected five saves and a ground ball in relief.

Catawba Individual Leaders
- Ava Stanza posted a game-high four goals, one assist and three ground balls while Mary Sorvillo had three goals, one assist, four ground balls and three draw controls. Kylie Harris went for three goals, one assist, one ground ball and a pair of caused turnovers.
- Ava Kunza and Ashlea Nieland combined for four saves in the win for Catawba.

- The Wasps hit the road on Saturday, April 18 when they travel to take on the Trojans of Anderson (S.C.) University. First draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from Anderson, South Carolina.
