Emory & Henry Women’s Indoor Track & Field Opens Competition At SAC Championships Saturday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Emory & Henry University Women's Indoor Track & Field Team opened postseason play on day one of the South Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships Saturday. The women's team set a new program standard and is in 11th after one day of competition.

Women's Top Performances

Track
- Freshman Alexandria Scott (Fredericksburg, Va.) finished 18th in the 400 meter prelims with a time of 1:02.87.
- Junior Kennedy Harris (Mineral, Va.) was 17th in the 800 meter prelims with a 2:24.64, while sophomore Tess Somervell (Chilhowie, Va.) took 20th in 2:26.35, junior Maya Turner (Midland, Va.) was 21st in 2:26.76 and junior McKenzie Tate (Wytheville, Va.) was 22nd in 2:27.15.
- Senior Elise McKinney (Church Hill, Tenn.) placed 19th in the 5000 meters with a 19:59.78 while freshman Lilia Yanez (El Paso, Texas) was 22nd in 22:14.04 and freshman Violet Riddle (Johnson City, Tenn.) was 23rd in 22:28.73.
- The 4000 meter distance medley relay team of Tate, Scott, Somervell and Harris was seventh in 13:15.85. 

Field
- Sophomore Mia Spangler (Floyd, Va.) finished 14th in the indoor pentathlon with a combined score of 2247.
- Spangler broke her own program record in the long jump with a leap of 5.26 meters to finish in ninth place.
- Freshman Chloe Spence (Riner, Va.) was 20th in the weight throw with her distance of 11.17 meters. Senior Catie Leonard (Gray, Tenn.) finished 26th with a toss of 10.09 meters.
