Emory & Henry Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Takes Second At Blue & Gold Invitational

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry University Outdoor Track & Field Team continued its outdoor season at its home meet the Blue & Gold Invitational Saturday. The men's team set one new program record, while tying another on their way to a meet win. The women's program set a new program standard of their own as they took second place.

Top Men's Performances

Track
- Junior Joshua Black (Woodbridge, Va.) was the medalist in the 100-meter dash as he finished in 10.81.
- Black followed that up with a first-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, putting down a time of 15.29, good enough for a new program record.
- Black continued his dominant day with a second place in the 200 meters, finishing in 22.06. Junior Christopher Smalls (Dumfries, Va.) was third in 23.10 while junior T.J. Pecina (Hayter's Gap, Va.) was fifth in 23.88.
- Pecina was the winner at 400 meters with a time of 52.69 and junior Evan Worley (Remington, Va.) was second in 1:00.15.
- Sophomore Hayden Pugh (Louisa, Va.) took first in the 800 meters with his time of 1:58.66. Junior Gavin Kegler (Woodbridge, Va.) was third in 2:04.44 while senior Samuel Tindall (Fort Defiance, Va.) was fifth in 2:06.17 and senior Miles Baldwin (Floyd, Va.) was sixth in 2:06.48.
- Baldwin picked up yet another win for the Wasps at 1500 meters with a time of 4:10.76. Tindall placed second in 4:14.83 while Pugh was third in 4:23.98 and Kegler was fourth in 4:24.84.
- Junior Davis Norman (Salem, Va.) earned the win in the 3000-meter steeplechase as he recorded a time of 10:10.33. Freshman J.T. Moore (Chilhowie, Va.) was third in 10:59.88.
- Junior Aidan Trautman (Centreville, Md.) took second in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:55.71 and senior Tommy Henzey, IV (Salem, Va.) was fifth in 17:55.33.
- Trautman was the winner at 10000 meters, finishing in 39:43.53. Henzey placed second with his 41:35.59.

Field
- Senior Gavin Lee (North Tazewell, Va.) won the discus throw with a toss of 46.64 meters while freshman Phillip Radford (Riner, Va.) was third with a 39.77 meter throw and fellow freshman Brock Ayers (Austinville, Va.) was eighth with his distance of 36.27 meters.
- Lee took home another victory in the hammer throw, launching a throw of 53.68 meters. Sophomore Malik Guadelupe (Woodbridge, Va.) finished second with his toss of 51.56 meters.
- Junior Drew Craft (Covington, Va.) was second in the high jump as he cleared a height of 1.85 meters, tying his shared program best.
- Freshman Carson Stanley (Wytheville, Va.) was fourth in the javelin throw, recording a distance of 37.71 meters. Craft was fifth with a 36.22 meter throw.
- Craft finished first in the long jump with a leap of 6.52 meters while freshman TaiShaun Cooks (Forest, Va.) was second with a distance of 6.36 meters.
- Ayers was second in the shot put with his 13.29-meter toss. Radford finished eighth with a 11.97.
- Craft took home another win in the triple jump, registering a jump of 13.36 meters. Cooks was second with a 12.85.

Women's Top Performances

Track
- Freshman Alexandria Scott (Fredericksburg, Va.) was fourth in the 100-meter dash with her time of 13.07.
- Sophomore Mia Spangler (Floyd, Va.) took third in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 19.25.
- Scott placed third in the 200 meters in 26.86 while junior Maya Turner (Midland, Va.) was fourth in 27.46.
- Turner was second in the 400 meters with a 1:02.53 and junior Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) was third in 1:03.16.
- Sophomore Tess Somervell (Chilhowie, Va.) was the medalist in the 800 meters, stopping the watches in 2:35.12. Junior McKenzie Tate (Wytheville, Va.) placed second in 2:35.17.
- Somervell continued her day with a second-place finish in the 1500 meters, finishing in 5:19.40. Tate placed third in 5:21.23.
- Senior Elise McKinney (Church Hill, Tenn.) was the winner in the 3000-meter steeplechase as she finished in 13:18.83.
- Freshman Lilia Yanez (El Paso, Texas) won at 5000 meters in 23:50.22 while fellow freshman Violet Riddle (Johnson City, Tenn.) was second in 24:06.48.

Field
- Freshman Chloe Spence (Riner, Va.) finished first in the discus throw as she registered a throw of 36.92 meters to set a new program record. Senior Taylorann Cash (Buena Vista, Va.) was fifth with a 33.37 meter toss.
- Cash took seventh in the hammer throw with a 35.61 meter throw while Leonard was ninth with a 33.52 meter distance. Senior Hope Shockley (Abingdon, Va.) was 11th (28.26 meters) and Spence was 12th (25.83 meters).
- Senior Alyssa Chappell (Church Hill, Tenn.) won the high jump, clearing a height of 1.50 meters.
- Harris was the winner in the javelin throw as she recorded a distance of 33.87 meters, smashing the previous program record by over five meters. Turner was fourth with a 20.14 and Spangler was sixth with her 17.53.
- Chappell took fourth in the long jump with her leap of 4.96 meters.
- Cash placed second in the shot put as she put down a throw of 10.76 meters. Spangler was ninth (8.79 meters) and Leonard was 10th (8.45 meters).
- Spangler rounded out her day with a victory in the triple jump as she leapt 10.80 meters.

- Emory & Henry is back in action on Friday, April 24 when the Wasps travel to compete in the John Weaver Invitational hosted by Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
