AUSTIN, Texas – Emory & Henry College has seen one of its baseball players named to the 2013 NCAA Division III Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District V Team, CoSIDA officials announced Friday. CoSIDA is the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Senior centerfielder Eric Houff (Blacksburg, Va.) has been selected to the Academic All-District First Team, and is now eligible for Academic All-America® honors. Houff is one of four players from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference to earn Academic All-District accolades.
He is the first first Emory & Henry player since 2004 to be selected when infielder Tommy Forrester was named to the All-District III squad.
Houff, a graduate of Blacksburg High School, led the team in batting with a .363 average this season. He also led the team in hits (57), doubles (11), RBI (33), at bats (157) and stolen bases (19).
Houff set three new career records and finished in the top three for two others. He now holds the top mark with 175 hits, 35 doubles and 511 at bats in his career. Houff is second in career runs scored (94) and third in RBI (93).
For his efforts this season, Houff was named to the All-ODAC Second Team. Emory & Henry finished the year with a 9-27 record and a 3-17 mark in ODAC play.
CoSIDA's Academic All-America® program has recognized student-athletes for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom for over 50 years. CoSIDA members nominate and vote in selection of Academic All-District and All-America performers in 12 sport categories across all divisions of college athletics.
