Emory & Henry Baseball Staff To Coach In Summer Collegiate Leagues

COTUIT, Mass./FAIRBORN, Ohio – Emory & Henry College's baseball coaches will spend the summer on the diamond this year, but in different positions from this spring with the Wasps. Head Coach Trey McCall and Assistant Coach Chip Schaffner have been selected to coach in two of the country's premier summer collegiate baseball leagues.

McCall will serve as an assistant coach for the Cotuit Kettleers of the Cape Cod Baseball League in Cotuit, Mass., while Schaffner has been tabbed for the top job of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League's Dayton Docs of Fairborn, Ohio.

McCall, who has just completed his eighth year at the helm of the Wasps' baseball team, will spend the summer in Cape Cod, home to the most prestigious summer baseball league in the country. The Cotuit Kettleers hold the honor of winning a record 15 Cape League titles.

The players for the Kettleers this summer range from across the country and come from schools such as Stanford, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Southern California, South Carolina and Arizona State. Former players for Cotuit include Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley, current New York Yankees Manager Joe Girardi and retired MLB All-Stars Greg Vaughn and Jeff Kent.

The Kettleers will begin the season on Wednesday, June 12. The Cape League Playoffs will follow the regular season from August 6-14. You may follow the games over the summer by visiting www.Kettleers.org and clicking on "Audio & Video Streaming."

Schaffner, after his first year as Assistant Coach at Emory & Henry, will serve as the manager for the Dayton Docs. The Docs are in their second year of competition in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and play their contests on the campus of Wright State University.

The roster for the Docs features many players from the Great Lakes region including players from Ohio State, Indiana, Valparaiso, Dayton, Kent State and Wright State.

Dayton will open the 2013 season on Thursday and will play 40 regular season games, concluding with a six-team playoff for the league championship. Keep track of the Docs season at www.DocsBaseball.com.
