Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Welcomes 12 New Players For 2012-13 Season

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team will have 12 new players on its roster for the 2012-13 season, Head Coach Rose Katz announced Friday. These new players will move into their residence halls this weekend and begin class on Tuesday, August 22.

"I am very excited about the incoming Emory & Henry Class of 2016! Not only are they skilled basketball players, but also extremely competitive and smart," said Katz. "We have brought in a great mix of scoring, quickness, rebounding, and athleticism. I also believe that this class will push our current players to become even better than they already are. That is what separates good teams from great ones. " 

The Emory & Henry recruiting class for the 2012-13 season consists of Tamara Brewster (Morrow, Ga.), Alison Brooks (Mosheim, Tenn.), Tenesha Connor (Greensboro, N.C.), Chelsea Delapp (Bristol, Va.), Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.), Haley Gilbert (Castlewood, Va.), Anna Green (Raleigh, N.C.), Kala Patton (Rural Retreat, Va.), Courtney Puckett (Basset, Va.), Amanda Stanley (Mooresville, N.C.), Hannah Stiltner (Grundy, Va.) and Belen Tamarit (Betera, Valencia, SPAIN).

Tamara Brewster – Forward – 5-10 – Morrow, Ga. – Forest Park High School
Tamara Brewster joins the Emory & Henry women's basketball team from Forest Park High School in Morrow, Ga. She was a four-year letterwinner on a team that saw the playoffs all four years. She averaged eight points, 10 rebounds and five assists per game. She was named Player of the Week by by Clayton Neighbor as a senior. She surpassed 100 points in her senior season. She received the Hustle Award and was named the leading rebounder for her team as a junior. Brewster was also a three-year letterwinner in cheerleading.

Brewster also was a member of several AAU basketball teams including Club Fury, Georgia Lady Tarheels, Big South and Atlanta Elite. She was also active in community service as a Girl Scout, recreation center volunteer. She was a member of the Certified Nursing Assistant Program and a member of the honor roll.

Alison Brooks – Guard – 5-7 – Mosheim, Tenn. – West Greene High School
Alison Brooks will come to Emory & Henry as a guard from West Greene High School in Mosheim, Tenn. She was a four-year letterwinner and served as a team captain for the Lady Buffs. Brooks averaged 12.6 points and over three steals per game for the Buffaloes. She was a two-year all-district honorable mention. She led her team in best three point percentage for three years. She also received the Best Offense Award and the Coaches Awards. Brooks also earned three letters in volleyball.

Brooks was a member of the Lady Trotters AAU basketball team, which won nationals in Myrtle Beach in 2010. She was recognized as one of the best AAU players in the nation.

She was also a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Greene County Youth Leadership. She is also a Tennessee Scholar.

Tenesha Connor – Guard – 5'2 – Greensboro, N.C. – Greensboro Day School
Tenesha Connor joins Emory & Henry from Greensboro Day School in Greensboro, N.C. She was a four-year letterwinner for the Bengals. Her team was named conference champions three-straight years and Connor served as team captain for the 2012 state runner-up team. Connor earned all-conference honors and was named Defensive Player of the Year both her junior and senior year. She averaged 9.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per game for the Bengals.

Connor was a member of the Lady Phoenix club team. She was also named to the all-tournament team in the Pizza Hut Invitational and the Holiday Classic.

She is a member of the National Honors Society and named to the Greensboro Day Heads List.

Chelsea Delapp – Forward – 5-10 – Bristol, Va. – Virginia High School
Chelsea Delapp comes to Emory & Henry from Virginia High School in Bristol, Va where she was a four-year letterwinner. Delapp averaged 11.9 points, over nine rebounds and three assists for the Bearcats. She was named all-district and all-region her junior and senior year. Delapp also earned all-state honors her senior season. She was named most improved by her team after her freshman year. She is also a two-year letterwinner in track and field.

Delapp served as President and Vice President of her Student Council Association. She was also a member of DECA and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Delapp's brother, Anthony Jones, plays football at Emory & Henry.

Karina Farr – Guard – 5-7 – Graham, Wash. – Bethel High School
Karina Farr joins the Emory & Henry squad as a guard from Bethel High School in Graham, Wa. She was a three-year starter. She earned first-team all-league honors. She was MVP of the White River tournament. Farr was also named The News Tribune Bethel High School Female Athlete of the Year.She earned her team's "Miss Rebounder" award and captain's award, along with the best free throw percentage. Farr also received two letters in track and one in both golf and swimming.

Farr was a member of the Emerald City Basketball Association which earned champion status twice in Spokane, Washington.  She earned the Na'ha'shee Native American Health Science award from Washington State University.

Haley Gilbert – Forward/Center – 5-10 – Castlewood, Va. – Castlewood High School
Haley Gilbert comes to Emory & Henry from Castlewood High School in Castlewood, Va. She was a three-year starter and a captain for the Blue Devils. Gilbert averaged 15 points and 14 rebounds for her squad. She was a Cumberland District honorable mention as a sophomore. She was named Lebanon News-Russell County co-Player of the Year as a junior and Lebanon-News Russell County Player of the Year as a senior. Gilbert earned Cumberland District first-team and all-region second-team honors as both a junior and a senior.

Gilbert was also a two-time all-district volleyball player. She also lettered in track and field and softball. She was a member of the Beta Club. She was also a two-time runner-up in Healthcare Administration at the FBLA Regional Competition.

Anna Green – Guard – 5-7 – Raleigh, N.C. – Grace Christian School
Anna Green joins Emory & Henry from Grace Christian School in Raleigh, N.C. She served as a team captain. Green averaged 13.6 points, over seven rebounds and four assists per game for the Eagles. She was named team MVP. Green also earned Conference Player of the Year, first-team all-conference, and all-tournament team honors. She was also a two-time conference all-star. Green also received letters in cross country and golf.

Green graduated Salutatorian in her class and was a member of the Beta Club.

Kala Patton – Forward/Center – 5-9 – Rural Retreat, Va. – Rural Retreat High School
Kala Patton will join Emory & Henry from Rural Retreat High School in Rural Retreat, Va. She was a semi-finalist for the All-Hogoheegee Female Athlete of the Year award. She averaged eight points and 11 rebounds per game.

Courtney Puckett – Guard – 5-6 – Bassett, Va. – Carlisle School
Courtney Puckett is a point guard from Carlisle School in Bassett, Va. As a two-year starter, she averaged 17.2 points and seven assists per game for the chiefs. She earned earned first-team all-conference and all-state all-tournament team. She was the Blue Ridge Conference Player of the Year and voted Most Valuable Player her junior and senior year.

Puckett was also a volleyball and softball all-conference player. She earned letters in soccer and cross country as well. She was also a member of the Piedmont Pride club team.

Amanda Stanley – Forward/Center – 6-0 – Mooresville, N.C. – South Iredell High School
Amanda Stanley comes to Emory & Henry from South Iredell High School in Mooresville, N.C. where she lettered in basketball all four years. She served as captain and was named most improved on her squad. Stanley averaged 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Vikings. Stanley was also a two-year letterwinner in track and field. She was also a member of the Lady Phoenix club team. Stanley was also a member of the Beta Club.

Hannah Stiltner – Guard – 5-6 – Grundy, Va. – Grundy High School
Hannah Stiltner joins the Emory & Henry squad from Grundy High School in Grundy, Va. She served as captain for the Golden Wave. Stiltner averaged 11 points and four rebounds for her squad. She earned Black Diamond district Player of the Year and first-team selection honors. She also earned second-team all-Southwest District honors. She was also named to the all-region second-team. Stiltner was voted Defensive Player of the Year in her junior season. She was also a letterwinner in softball, track, and cross country. She was a member of the Grundy Gladiators club team that earned a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games of Virginia.

She was a member of the National Beta Club and Honor Society. She was a member of Student Council Association, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, FBLA, FCCLA, and the Key Club.

Belen Tamarit – Center – 6-3 – Betera, Valencia, SPAIN - Santo Tomas de Aquino
Belen Tamarit comes to E&H from Betera, a suburb of Valencia, Spain. She is a third-generation Emory & Henry student as her mother and grandfather both attended the College and her grandfather was a student-athlete. She attended high school at Santo Tomas de Aquino in Paterna.

 

"The adjustment to the shot clock and physicality of the game will take some time, but I know this class is certainly up to the challenge! Our returners have been great at taking the freshmen under their wing and showing them the ropes.  I am looking forward to getting started with a great group of student-athletes," added Katz.

Emory & Henry will open the 2012-13 season on Friday, October 16 when it travels to Westminster, Maryland to compete in McDaniel College's Tip-Off Tournament. The Wasps will face the McDaniel Green Terror at 6:00 p.m., with their Saturday opponent to be determined.
