EMORY, Va. - The Emory & Henry College Volleyball Team has added three players for the 2012 season, Head Coach Dan Clotfelter announced Monday.
The 2012 class for the Wasps consists of Madison DeBord (Williamsburg, Va.), Natasha Moore (Fries, Va.) and Hannah Stewart (Boone, N.C.).
"This year's recruiting class offers a little bit of everything. We have one player that played outside hitter in high school, one middle blocker and one defensive specialist," said Clotfelter. "As with all freshmen, they will have to adjust to the speed of the college game, but we expect that they will be called on to contribute early in their careers."
Madison DeBord – Defensive Specialist – 5-3 – Williamsburg, Va. – Warhill High School
Madison DeBord was a four-year letterwinner at Warhill High School for Head Coach Greg Koon and played club volleyball for Williamsburg Volleyball Club. She was named best defensive player as a sophomore and a junior of her high school team. A three-time A Honor Roll member and recipient of the Presidential Award, DeBord was also a member of the Key Club and Environmental Club. She is a member of E&H's Bonner Scholars' program.
"Madison should add depth on our defense. Look for her to come off the bench when we need to change things up on the back row," commented Clotfelter.
Natasha Moore – Outside Hitter – 5-8 – Fries, Va. – Grayson County High School
Natasha Moore lettered four years at Grayson County High School for Head Coach Carlie Phipps and played club volleyball for the Southwest Virginia Juniors. She was a first-team all-district, second-team all-region selection and two-time Team MVP (2010 & 2011). Moore also lettered four years in softball and three seasons in basketball. She was vice president of FBLA and a member of the Beta Club, and is active in her church.
"Natasha played in the middle in high school, but probably projects to a pin hitter at the college level," Clotfelter noted.
Hannah Stewart – Outside Hitter – 5-11 – Boone, N.C. – Watauga High School
Hannah Stewart was four-year letterwinner at Watauga High School for Head Coach Kris Hagaman and played club volleyball for Piedmont Volleyball Club. She was a two-time all-conference selection and was named Team MVP as a junior. Stewart was also member of the Beta Club and A/B Honor Roll.
"Hannah played outside hitter in school and club ball and has the size and ability to play any of the front row positions for us," added Clotfelter.
Emory & Henry, which finished 14-13 last year (5-5 ODAC), opens the 2012 season on Friday, August 31. The Wasps will travel to Ferrum, Va., to face the Panthers of Ferrum College at 6:30 p.m.
